Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We knew several places we wanted to see in Scotland which included the Northcoast Geo 500. Mark Allan, our Scotland Travel Expert was not only an expert driver through this diverse and often steep terrain, he was a fantastic guide.

Balnakeil was not on our list of must see places but we were very pleased Mark took us there as it's definitely not a place to be missed. We couldn't believe it when he said we would see a beautifully colored turquoise sea (similar to Caribbean waters) but it was there, complete with sandy beach. The celtic monastery was another wonderful surprise. We probably could have spent more time here if it weren't such a cold and blustery day. Still, it's a spectacular spot and definitely worth the drive --- just make sure you're wearing some warm gear.

Followed up on a local recommendation, past the church walk along the beach ( which itself looks stunning' follow the road into the sand dunes. Then WOW what a view. White sands and turquoise waters. What a gem in the highlands. Unspoilt natural beauty. Well worth the 20min walk. For 2 hours not another person in sight.

Absolutely gorgeous setting and beautiful view points around the headland. Unfortunately the weather was not particularly good, but we enjoyed a long walk.

It’s a lovely beach but there are better beaches nearby such as Ceannabeinne!
The car park is reasonably sized and there are impressive sand dunes but you cannot walk on them as they are protected.

This would indeed be the perfect beach if it was located in the Caribbean! A wide sweep of golden sand, backed by dunes. Walk across it from the car park then up the track to see the puffins.

A great sandy beach with lovely blue-green sea and imposing rocky cliffs. Very photogenic and a great day out! You can walk all the way along the length of the beach and up a track at the end to a lighthouse which has good sea views and vistas back along the sand. If you find it too cold/windy the craft village isn't far away with hot drinks and interesting shops! Well worth a visit!

Take the short walk from Durness Golf course around the bay on the beach ( mind the cows on the sand! I am not kidding). Once on the other side take another short walk ( 1.5 miles ) upto Faraid Head. You will get some of the best coastal views in the British Isles. Even if you don't walk to Farid, the beach is a hidden gem.

This is a beautiful location. Much more peaceful beach compared with the surrounding ones. Perfect for a picnic. There is also an old church dating back to 1009 which is quite interesting to have a look at.
