In May 2019 I joined Derek Gordon, his crew and some mutual friends for a trip by RIB from Ballycastle in Northern Ireland to Kylesku in North West Scotland. We travelled around 450 miles over the 5 days, staying overnight in 4 delightful places which were adjacent to good food and accommodation. Thanks to Derek's expertise we landed on around 20 islands, most of which were small and uninhabited, and saw over 20 lighthouses. We also counted more than 50 species of birds. Derek helped us all to gel together and work happily as a team. It was a trip I had often wanted to do and it showed Scotland's West Coast at its majestic best. Derek is one of a select group of skippers on the West Coast and islands who knows how to safely go to places that few have gone before.

Wonderful 3 hour cruise to see the Old Man of Stoer and the spectacular sea birds of Handa Island. Close enough to the sea cliffs to see the razorbills and gulleomots swimming underwater. And puffins! Derek and Christian capable and knowledgeable guides. A truly great experience even on a dull somewhat rainy day.

I made my second trip with North Coast Sea Tours on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th June 2019. It was every bit as good as my first journey with them in August 2018 (see my earlier review). This time we travelled on board Integrity from Kylesku (45 mins drive north of Ullapool) to Carloway on the west coast of Lewis and stayed overnight at the very comfortable Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. We then had a superb meal at a nearby hotel. The following day, following an excellent breakfast, it was on to the Flannans, Sula Sgeir, North Rona and Sule Skerry - all incredibly remote. There was quite a big swell at the Flannans and landing was not especially easy but, thanks to the skill of skipper Derek Gordon and his crew, we were able to make it safely ashore. We landed more easily at North Rona and Sule Skerry and could have landed at Sula Sgeir but elected not to as the gannets were nesting so close to the landing point. We did, however, have an excellent view of the birds and the grey seals swimming in the shallows. I signed the visitors book in the small hut on North Rona and was the first person to do so since my own previous entry .... 10 months before! On the way home we motored past remote Sule Stack and had fabulous views of the north coast of Scotland, Cape Wrath, Sandwood Bay and Handa Island to enjoy. I cannot finish this review without mentioning both the skill and friendliness of skipper Derek Gordon and his two man crew of Christian and Reuben. They were unfailingly polite and friendly throughout the trip and could not do enough for the seven of us on board. Thanks a million and I look forward to my next trip - perhaps further north to see Muckle Flugga and the Shetland Islands - in the not too distant future.

An amazing trip. An incredibly welcoming band friendly skipper with an extremely knowledgeable and fun guide. Seeing the coast from the water was fantastic. Handa Island teeming with birds and a sea eagle site to top it off. Highly recommended.

As soon as we stepped on the dock, we were met by a warm welcome and a friendly introduction. The tour was amazing and we were incredibly lucky enough to see white tailed sea eagles! The eagles were an unexpected delight. The crew are very knowledgeable too, we learnt a lot that day! Absolutely wonderful day, saw a few puffins around hands island. Highly highly recommend ❤️💙
