Here is the opportunity to rediscover a forgotten local hero, Hugh Miller, one of Scotland's greatest geologists and writers. The two buildings take you on a journey through 19th Century Cromarty and Scotland through Miller's eyes, via his fossils and his writings.

After reading a few articles about Hugh Miller I felt the presentation of the museum and cottage to be uninspiring. The so called Hugh Millers garden was in fact a modern representation of what might have been there. Overall very average for SNT, Go to...More

A small but interesting museum. We did not know of him until visiting scotland. His wife's journal interesting. Do visit associated cottage and cottage garden.

Very interesting duo of houses adjacent to each other, one Hugh Miller's birth place presented as it might have looked in his day with a very good audio guide. The other is his family home, now a museum with lots of interesting information well presented...More

A great insight into this chap's life and findings. There was a limited range of exhibitions but it is not a large property to explore. It gave us some good local knowledge and background to the history of the area

We only visited because we are NTS members. Didn't know who Hugh Miller was before our visit but we were all inspired by our visit. Lovely, helpful, kind staff. Very good audio tour. Can't rate this attraction highly enough. Loved it. Highly recommended.

Cromarty is a beautiful gem, red stone houses and coastal walks aplenty. We had red reviews of Hugh Miller's museum but had never heard of him. Turns out he was an amazing man of many talents. His cottage where he was born is a treasure...More

They should have scripts handed out for deaf and HOH people who can't hear the audio guide when going into the cottage. We were unable to go upstairs because of 'leaking roof'.

A man of many talents --- good information panels -- house itself is quite interesting -- really enjoyed looking around the adjacent cottage for a sense of times past
