Built off the backs of tied slave servants and unwilling oppresees Muness Castle is a gem in an uncompromising environment. Large enough to evoke a sense of the past occupation but small enough to cover everything that is important.

We absolutely adore this place. We have been visiting for 21 years and every year it just feels better and better. Many years ago you had to pick up the key from the little house next door. Sadly this house has now returned to nature...More

Great to see some renovation work being done to the castle even thought it meant that access to some areas was limited. Very picturesque and fab location for photos. Would be great to have some more information about the people who lived there and what...More

Had the place to ourselves as is typical with most visitor 'attractions' in the Northern Isles. Kids loved using the torches provided to explore what remains of the castle. I particularly enjoyed visiting the wine cellar - if only it was stocked!

Some scaffolding currently but still good to see. Nice photo opportunities. Likely to have the place to yourself. Free, so definitely worth a look. One of the quirky puffin statues beside castle, which kids will like.

Sadly shrouded in scaffolding so parts externally and internally could not be viewed. Interesting historic building and the furthest north fortified building in the U.K. Just the shell of the Z plan building left with vaulted cellars and roofless shell above.

A simila castle to that at Scalloway. The remote location with few visitors makes this an atmospheric place to visit.
