I was super fortunate to spend the whole day in the company of Shetland naturalist supremo - Brydon Thomason, founder of Shetland Nature, talented photographer and co-author of Otters in Shetland: the tale of the draatsi - which is the local dialect name for an otter - and a more delightful guide I couldn't have wished for. What I wanted... More

My husband and I booked the 'Shetland in Winter - Birds, Otters and Up Helly Aa', January 2017 trip and had a wonderful time with Shetland Nature. This 5-day trip involved an interesting combination of wildlife, scenery and local culture including the spectacular Up Helly Aa Festival in Lerwick which takes place every January. We booked our own travel (flights... More

Brydon gave us the perfect day out, showing us where and how to spot otters locally. But to see the humpback whales off Yell was truly amazing. Brydon was so informative, answering questions from a bunch of numpties who didn't know a seal from an otter - only now we know that seals really sneeze! He was patient and knew... More

We travelled to the Shetlands in early May in hopes to get some good shots of puffins and otters. Although a bit early in the season, we managed to see both and many more birds and fantastic landscape. We stayed at the Shetland Nature Lodge, a cozy house with fantastic scenery. As keen photographers, our trip was bespoke and Brydon... More

Despite not being the ideal timing tide-wise for a visit to see and photograph otters, Brydon managed to get us to see 15 otters and close enough to a number of them to get some pretty good shots. The lodge was also extremely comfortable, which made for a very pleasant weekend despite the weather. I would recommend this service to... More

I went on the Shetland Nature one-week Nature & Landscape Photography Workshop in September 2016. It was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Through the skill, knowledge and determination of our expert local guides Richard and Brydon we were able to see and photograph otters, killer whales, seals, gannets and more of Shetland's wildlife, and visit many spectacular scenic locations across... We had a week on Unst staying in the Shetland Nature Lodge (a lovely comfy retreat with fantastic views) at the end of October/early November 2016. Our trip was a bespoke itinerary specifically arranged for us to develop our field craft and otter tracking skills and knowledge of otter ecology over three days. We spent the entire time with Brydon... More

Just completed my fourth trip with Shetland Nature and I cannot recommend them highly enough (except if you want to go at the same time as me - then there's no room!) Brydon and Richard really put everything into finding us otter families, and the care they take to get you into a position where you can enjoy the otters,... More

As a regular client of Shetland Nature, I can't fault this year's trip - many thanks to Gary in particular and the rest of the SN team - the food and accommodation was all good, the birds showed well, and the company through the week was excellent. Even the sun shone (not always guaranteed). Hope to be back soon.
