Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Popped into Biggar Museum while on a cycle tour of Upper Clydesdale (from Carstairs station). Housed in a lovely space, a former garage, it's a wonderful local museum with a welcoming service and a great range of exhibits; from roman and medieval links, to landscape and a fantastic "street" of historic shop premises (reminiscent of Glasgow's Riverside Museum), it's a real find. The collection (and shop) is located in the heart of Biggar, a stoat away from cafes and other places of interest. A wee gem!

Spent a couple hours enjoying this museum on a Monday afternoon. It was well put together, with a lot of interesting information about the area, which was detailed and interesting. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and have a couple ours to spend.

We called into the museum on a one night stay in Biggar, this is a very well organised museum indeed, it is easy to follow the stories all the way round and the information is clear and easy to read. The little shops that have been constructed to show Gladstone Court in Victorian times are fascinating. We really enjoyed our visit. The ladies on duty were very helpful too. Well worth a visit

While exploring the quiet country roads in the Southern Uplands I stopped for a coffee in Biggar and discovered by chance this fascinating small museum. It offers a very wide variety of exhibits relevant to the local history and geography.
However my greatest delight was the magnificent (and fully restored) model of the the “palace that was never built”, Dalkeith Palace, commissioned by the Duke of Buccleuch and built by local architect George Meikle Kemp. But hurry, the model will only be on display (closed on Mondays) until September 3rd!

This small museum is one of the best I have ever visited. There are a wide range of exhibits, all clearly described without the need for a magnifying glass to read the explanatory text! Local history is well documented from circa 2400BC up to the 20th century. There is an excellent section on geology and a range of reconstructed old shops. Even the toilets are spotless!
Well done Biggar, you could show many other museums how it should be done.

Nothing more needs saying than it is amazing what a small village/town can produce when it really wants to. Also appreciated by the non-English speakers accompanying me. GRADE A

I revisited the museum recently whilst there was a small exhibition of paintings on loan representing the Glasgow Boys. The Glasgow Boys were a large group of twenty three artists who worked in the city in the 19th Century but despite their nametag were not necessarily Glaswegians. There was a good varied selection of their work on display, albeit the gallery space here is limited. It is fortunate that the museum is able to attract exhibitions of this calibre at all thanks to the high standards it maintains.
I used the visit to also remind myself of the main attraction of the museum which is local history covering a large time span and many interesting items all well displayed.
Features like the telephone switchboard are hands on - literally for several people to operate, and remind us how far we have come with mobile phones in a relatively short period of time. In days when online shopping is “the norm”, step back in time to when there were many dressmakers, pharmacies, general stores, etc in small towns catering for the locals, recreated here in a street scene.
Entry is free to residents of ML12 postcode, many of whom helped raised funds to support the museum’s establishment, and otherwise £5 for adults, £2 for children.

Thanks so much for your review & we're so pleased to hear you enjoyed both the temp. exhibition abt. the Glasgow Boys and your visit to the museum.
You may have spotted the telephone exchange, camera display and telephone box are all close to each other in the street scape & I often point out to children how all of these are now combined on their phones. Amazing to imagine how far we've come in such a short time but being able to stroll down a Victorian Street & interact with all the shops is still a very special experience.
Our shops will be coming to life on Nov. 25th at our Late Night Shopping Event when artisan crafts people will be selling their wares from the Victorian street scape.
Hope you can visit again at some point.

Fantastic gem of a museum, like a tardis, small on outside and keeps on going. Lovely friendly staff, interesting exhibits, kids activities kept my 6yr old busy, and the street of old shops was fascinating and really took you back in time. Family ticket great value. Loved the little detailed models too. Well worth entrance fee

Hi i would like to view Brownsbank Cottage tomorrow on my way home from the Isle of Luing. I am Christopher Murray Grieve’s Great Nephew, Andrew Grieve. Sorry for the short notice and do not worry if this is not possible as I will just look outside.
