I have been to a lot of whisky distilleries. Our tour of Bowmore was special because we were there in the "silent" period and so were able to get up close to the machinery and walk on the floor where the barley is smoked. The...More

We really enjoyed out tour of the Islands oldest and most historic distillery especially Vault no1. The staff were amazing and very knowledgable and three drams to taste at the end along with a souvenir glass to keep capped a very enjoyable visit.

Toured a couple of weeks ago. Took the local bus from Port Ellen which suited perfect for our 3.30 tour and took the bus home again just after 5pm. Very informative tour. Unfortunately it is quiet season so not actively producing. Worth checking prior to...More

Lovely place. One of the best. Nice shop and bar overlooking the sea. Very helpful friendly girl who offered a free tasting. Samples of shortbread also on offer.

Great value for money. £10 a head gets you a great tour plus 3 nips and a nice wee souvenir glass to take away, Our guide was lovely and she had a good knowledge of the whole process.

Nice distillery, shop area to the front, tasting bar at the back. On entering the bar we were offered a complimentary taster of the 12 year old which made us feel welcomed and my husband bought a bottle to take home. At some other distilleries...More

We did a "distillery tour" from Edinburgh, but it wasn't any of the Hebridean distilleries, it was just a loop of the highlands with a stop-off at Dewar's - not really what I was looking for, as I'm a single malt buff. The... More

Going from Bowmore to Edinburgh will take something between 6,5 and 7 h. It depends on the time table for the ferry, which changed yesterday.
