Real expertise made accessible

Really engaging couple of hours spend learning from a wealth of expertise on topics from whales to geology. Kids were fully absorbed and adults learned loads too. Lilly the lobster was a highlight.

Lovely little place.

Is kind of home-spin but that only adds to its charm. The exhibits are all relevant to the area and the staff friendly and informative. Children should love it.

Nearly opposite the museum and well worth a visit, so interactive the lady in charge wiped the sightings board and put all mine up ! to which I added a Great Northern diver fishing outside the centre with a juvenile, ran to the car and got the scope on it, 100% GN diver and it was calling. The movie on golden pond was right there in my head. Anyway that was outside, inside was very informative and educational especially for kids, great place.

Excellent overview of the island's nature and geology
May 2018 • Couples
This is a small independent charity run by enthusiastic volunteers. The amount of information they have managed to gather is well curated in this compact building. There are separate rooms for the very young, for school agers and masses of reading matter both on the walls and further information in their library for interested adults. There is a wealth of portable infobooks in the shop, handy to keep in the car. An essential first stop!

Really interesting geographical facts
May 2018 • Couples
While this is in a basic building and is run on a volunteer basis - it gives a really good overview of the geology and flora and fauna of Islay. Excellent for kids with activities and interactive displays.

Informative and interesting

Great for a rainy day, but well worth a visit in any weather! Lots of displays of local flora and fauna, and information about where to spot wildlife on the island. Star of the show is a huge skeleton of a minke whale. Also houses a natural history library and has lots of interactive activities for kids. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. One ticket gets you entry for the whole week.
