Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loved this place. Ideal for the extended family - grandparents, parents and two small children. Spent lots of time and had lots of fun in the very well set up play park and then enjoyed one of the shorter walks. Boardwalk meant the 3 year old could run back and forth with less risk of tripping or turning her foot on rough ground, the baby could enjoy it all from her buggy and everyone was very happy. So happy we went twice!
Lots of hairy oobits about (woolly caterpillars), plenty small birds bobbing around in the trees and bushes, and an obliging eagle or two!

These walks are delightful, and there is the additional surprise of a fantastic childrens' playground amongst the woods. Superb.

Fantastic location and easily identifiable from a distance due to the Woodland visible from afar.

Great car park with a few different walkways to choose. There’s a really short circular walk that’s boarded out with decking which can be slippery in the rain but there’s benches and picnic tables which would be great to use on dry days.

There’s ‘deer management’ signs up stating to stay on the clearly marked footpaths from I think November until 15th February and we could hear gunshots so just beware if you go here during the winter

We had a great afternoon doing some of the woodland walks. Spotted eagles and on the lower walk spotted seals and lots of fish. Unfortunately no otters this time.

There is a car park with plenty of space and a number of walks in the area. Play area 2minutes from car park for children with picnic benches outside and inside a wooden hut. Toilet facilities also next to play area. Benches and picnic tables on the walks so plenty of space to stop and have a picnic.

Views are stunning even on a wet day. We were lucky and didn't get attacked by the midges but I'd recommend carrying some spray.

Great woodland with marked pathways and information boards/routes placed in the car park. We did the eagle walk and saw 2 straight away, proceeded down to the loch and saw seals there too - an added bonus! Great scenery. There's also a play park and toilet there too. Excellent - well done to the trust! Highly recommend.

The pathways are really good because, unlike most of the rest of the Outer Hebrides, they are clearly marked and you don't need to be wearing chest waders to use them. The boardwalks on both sides of the road offer good firm footing for the start of substantial walks. They peter out into gravel paths quite quickly but the paths are clean and substantial. The walks are easy and vary in length. The newest walk on the opposite side of the road to the car park, has not yet made it into the information stone but it is worth a look because it takes you up and over a small but steep section of moorland that then takes you through a sparse but pretty line wood.
The whole place has a wonderful aura about it, it's not spectacular but it is peaceful and the walks are good exercise.
Venture up into the children's playground above the car park and you will find a panoramic Vista that has got to be the best view ever from a children's playpark in Britain.

Great woodland with walking paths and an excellent play park just south of Balallan- suitable for all ages and abilities. A hidden gem between Stornoway and Tarbet.
