About
We are a small family run local tour business located in Stornoway on the Isle Of Lewis. At Hebridean Isle Tours we run 3 tours, one of the Isle of Lewis, one of the Isle of Harris and one to Uig and Great Bernera, each tour is priced at £90 per person, payable on the day. We also take you places off the beaten track, giving you the best opportunity to explore the island. Hugh or Gordon, your local guides, will share with you their local knowledge and also some of the local traditions whilst you sit back and relax. Although the seasons and scenery change throughout the year the beauty remains, we are here to meet you from your accommodation, from the ferry terminal or collection from the airport if it’s a flying visit. So just sit back, relax, have a laugh and get the ‘craic’.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gordon was a "fill in" as Hugh was busy with other guests, and GORDON WAS PERFECT! We totally loved the day, his stories and the stops. He helped us to understand the area and its people. When he learned that one of us was a student of Stevenson lighthouse history, he detoured to visit one. We can't thank him enough for a fantastic day!

A first for us a 5 star review of an event that never happened! We were booked on a tour with Hugh, had super quick communication to book the tour, and subsequent clear follow up emails about meeting place from our cruise ship etc.
Then we arrived off Stornoway, got up at 5am to make sure we got the first tender ashore only to find the Captain had cancelled as the swell was too bad.
We phoned Hugh to advise him of our non arrival and he was charm personified, and we’ve even had a follow up email about the tour that never happened, from someone whose day's income had disappeared.
Thank you Hugh for being a true Hebridean gentleman. If the pre tour was this good goodness know what we missed.

We booked the Isle of Lewis historical tour and ended up having the tour all to ourselves with Hugh’s associate, Gordon. It was the best day and we had zero regrets about booking the tour. Hugh gave us clear directions about where to meet them and we were able to pay for the tour day of via card or cash. Gordon was very kind and taught us so much about the Isle and was very knowledgeable about the sites we visited. He also answered our random questions about life on the Isle, their currency system, and suggested places to eat in town. We did not feel rushed at any of the sites we visited, as we were able to walk around and enjoy them. I desperately wanted to visit a beach and Gordon was happy to make that happen even though it wasn’t really part of the tour. The tour spots highlighted the history of the Isle and this tour more than worth the fee. We will be fondly thinking back on this tour for a long time. I highly recommend you book with Hebridean Isle Tours!

My husband & I agree that this tour was one of the best we've ever been on & Hugh was an excellent guide. We were on a cruise ship so he met us & 6 others a short distance just outside the pier. I have WhatsApp on my phone which he used to send us a map to be able to find him in the parking lot. While we waited for 4 of the people to tender off the ship, he took us to see Lews Castle. Then we picked up the others and were all off to see the sites & the isle. The island has a lot of history. The blackhouse, the broch & the Calanish Standing Stones were fascinating to hear about. The Butt of Lewis was beautiful. The tour is reasonably priced. An FYI - I booked the tour about 4 weeks ahead & was glad I did.

All of the tour was wonderful! Hugh is a fabulous guide. My favorite part was the Callendish stones. The black house was super interesting. The beaches were stunning. Absolutely wonderful! My boyfriend loved the cliff top light house from the 1800's and the church from 1 AD. I give Hugh a thousand stars.

We really enjoyed our historic tour of Lewis with Hugh. He took us to many places we wouldn’t have known to go to. Each stop telling us about the history of the island and about island life itself .

We had a day tour of Isle of Lewis & Harris with Hugh and enjoyed it very much. The views were spectacular everywhere we went, the historic sites were fascinating. Hugh is an excellent guide; knowledgeable about the area, prifessional, attentive and friendly.

I'm not great at writing reviews... even when I think I'm going to do it straight away, I struggle with capturing my immediate feelings. But I spent two days touring with Hugh in late April 2019, & it has resonated with me every day since. As an independent traveller, especially a woman on your own, you really have to lean out there & trust the people you book with. Hugh was super on email, giving me so many tips in my planning stages well before I got to the Outer Hebrides. It was a dream for my whole adulthood to visit these phenomenal isles. Hugh showed me so many amazing places, told great stories about the history of the isles, gave me beautiful cultural & local insights, handled my first ever 'Ceilidh' hangover with kindness & humour, & shared personal stories. I never would have gotten any of that from some bus tour from the mainland. On one of those days, we saw more dogs than people - now that is a magical place! Hanging on my wall is my beautiful 'Steornabhagh - Eilean Leodhais' poster... & it reminds me every day, I've been to one of the most wonderful places in the world... & a really neat guy called Hugh showed me around like we had known one another for years!!

In September 2019 I did three tours with Hugh the Lewis, the Harris and the Uig and Great Bernera Tours. All of them were fantastic. If you do not have a car this is the best way to explore the Islands. There are buses but there are long waits in between and this makes visiting more than one place properly in a day tricky ie the Blackhouse at Gearranan. Also you would not get to see the beautiful places off the beaten track where the buses do not go. We were out between 5 and 6 hours on each tour and having pretty good weather helped.Hugh had a nice little people carrier and the most people I had on my tours was four.Hugh was an excellent guide. He was informative, friendly, fun and with lots of lovely stories of his life in Stornoway.I definitely want to go back to Stornoway again and I would do Hughs tours again for sure.

I took my mom on a trip to the Isle of Lewis and Harris in May and booked a tour with Hugh so we could see the most of both. This tour did not disappoint!! We always had so much time at each site and never felt rushed. Hugh is very knowledgeable about the history of the isles - very detail oriented to give us the best experience possible. 100% worth every penny. Hugh was also great with dropping us off an our Airbnb which was a bit off the beaten path after our Lewis tour and then picked us up there the following morning prior to our Harris tour. We could not have asked for a better experience or a better tour guide.
