Absolutely worth the time to visit. Very accurate reflection of the wonderful people not only of Lewis - but the length of the Outer Hebrides. The Lewis Chessmen were on display as well as several static displays - even a few tattered bottles which survived...More

The castle is an interesting walk from the town. The museum, located in the castle, is basically 5 large rooms side by side. One has an exhibit of a few of the chessmen, borrowed from the British Museum on a 10year lease. Another has a...More

We visited Lews Castle Museum on a wet and windy day in Stornoway. The introductory film is fantastic, we loved the fact that the film is shown on three sides and you really feel you are in the landscape. It was great to see the...More

The extension that houses the museum is a super contrast to the original castle building. Clad in zinc, the silver finish sets the building off in contrast to the castle. It has been well fitted out inside with the different rooms used to good advantage...More

I submitted this review on the Lews Castle site. So we loved the museum. We went specifically to see the chessmen and they did not disappoint. The docents were very knowledgeable and helpful. The whole museum was great and we would recommend a visit.
