Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We knew that it was closed and there was nothing to see but the lighthouse, but it's actually run as a cattery. There's a small space for a couple of car and turning as it's at the end of the road. Nice views over the bay. It's a short trip from Stornoway, so can be easily combined with arriving on the lunchtime ferry.

Awesome! We weren’t at the viewpoint above the lighthouse long before someone spotted a rib cruiser in the water that was tracking a pair of humpback whales. Great views of the whales breaking the water, blowholes spraying, tails out of the water. Definitely humpbacks! Never seen anything like this from land before! It was a clear day, not too windy, but good shelter available from wind. Binoculars essential and an even better view from one of our party’s telescope. Spectacular! We were about to leave then we spotted a pod of dolphins not too far from the shore. Beautiful!

It was a good way to experience the wild weather of Scotland. While we were there we had gale force winds and a good bit of rain. While not ideal that day for a picnic it was great for witnessing seagulls nesting in clumps of flowers to hide from the wind while huge waves crash around them! It is worth the trip, the drive is not just about this destination but others along the way! Don't be put off by the extra 20 minutes out of your way - lots of scenery to enjoy getting here.

The lighthouse in itself is only average and is fenced off as private property. The environment was however scenic with a short walk up behind the lighthouse. There are reports of sighting whales and dolphins in the nearby sea. The angle of sight to the ocean was perfect for attempts to locate these wonderful sealife. Our visits happened to meet another couple watching over the ocean with a telescope. All of us believe to have sighted some actions of big sea life. So excited although we were not 100% sure.

People do not come to look at the lighthouse. They walk up the small hill next to it and take out their binoculars and try to spot dolphins. There are very wide views; can be windy though. Just relax, take lunch, have patience and you never know.

What a waste of time driving to the lighthouse. We thought it would be open for viewing but it was surrounded by a locked wire fence and dogs were inside the building barking like mad.

Gorgeous views. Very windy the day I went. Not so sure about children and wheelchairs...would see but would have to watch out for the wind. The lighthouse wasn’t open, and I don't think it usually is.
Because it is so windy, I can't imagine hanging out here for very long. It is spectacular though and well worth a visit.
I came with a tour of three people. It did seem remote to get to, and I don't believe you can get there without some serious walking if you do the bus.

Drive up to the lighthouse and was met by the owner who was questioned why we were here. Was very rude to us when we said we just came to have a look and started calling us “weird” for being near his property. The lighthouse and coast is definitely interesting to see though.

Quiet road to drive down the Eye Peninsula to the lighthouse. Can’t actually get right up close to view the lighthouse but no the less a stunning location, really windy on the day of our visit! Nowhere for us to park as there were road works going on near so assume that’s where one would park? Therefore didn’t stay long, just took in the view and some photos.
The lighthouse was automated in 1985 and is monitored from Edinburgh. The former keepers' accommodation is no longer needed and is now home to kennels and a cattery.

A fascinating drive from Stornoway past the airport and to the end of a small peninsula.
The drive provided added interest by turning down some of the small narrow side roads to gain some beautiful sea views and with a couple of local history sites to investigate, i.e. the ruins of an ancient church.
The lighthouse was comfortably accessible, with a short walk up a hillside to obtain superb views across the sea back towards the mainland. Enjoyed seeing a flock of gannets diving just out from the lighthouse as a bonus.

Wont be visiting till next year but is it open for visitors?

We visited in July and thought it was open to the public according to the guide book we had but found it in extremely poor condition and full of barking dogs. Evidently it is no longer open to the public but if you spot marine life it might be worth the drive.
