Some interesting bits but very small. Opening times not as advertised (we went for a long walk between advertised and actual opening times) Check before visiting

Great for kids and Gavin Maxwell fans

This is a centere than can be overlooked, but well woth a visit. Interesting for adults and plenty of interactive stuff for kids. Staff are knowledgable, not just about the centre, but of the surrounding area and its history.

The visitor centre has lots of information about otters and Gavin Maxwell who wrote 'Ring of Bright Water' and lived in the area. Well worth a visit.

Wish I had found sooner

Only had a short time to look around the centre. Lots of useful information and educational for children. Wish I had found sooner as I would have been able to go on a lighthouse tour! Donations box. Small gifts selection too.

Skye and Lochalsh From Kyleakin--Inverness
Jun 2018 • Solo
There is probably numerous trips from Inverness to the Isle of Skye , but doing it our own way is more of a memorable trip i think , the information centre will give you lots of tips for travelling round the island , i caught the local island bus from Kyleakin to Elgol although it was only a small part of the island , you get some wonderful scenic views of mountains, lakes,Deer, and countryside in basically my own bus apart from a local here and there ,a great 3-4 hour round trip with some amazing sights , you get a half hour stop off on the hillside nr Elgol for a drink at the local cafe , and to take in the wonderful lakeside views. On returning to Kyleakin you can take the bus back to Lochalsh station , but better is the 1hr walk back over the huge road bridge and epic scenic views from up high of the surrounding lochs, mountains and villages , and castle ,what an epic trip ,doing it your own way , then following the road back to Lochalsh station its on the train back to Inverness ,great day ,great photos,

We stopped in here for information about Gavin Maxwell and local wildlife.

We found the person working there helpful and informative, about the local flora and fauna, and about the area.
