About
This property is temporarily closed. Tayside Police Museum is located at 15 Reform Street, Kirriemuir. Owned by Police Scotland, and operated by a small group of volunteers comprised of retired Tayside Police officers and members of the Kirriemuir Heritage Trust, it's aim is to preserve the heritage and history of policing in all of the areas that now comprise the Tayside region. Hello everyone. Just a short message to let you know that Tayside Police Museum will close for the 2023 season on Saturday 28th October. The museum will open again next Easter time, but during this 'closed' period, we will be happy to facilitate group visits whenever we are able. Thank you, and best wishes to all. The volunteers!

    Fantastic place to visit
We had a great time today at the museum, thank you Hamish for all your knowledge and stories! There are lots of interesting items in the display, including some eye-opening weapons used by criminals. It was great being able to see a cell and the graffiti left by inmates! It's well worth a visit and would be fantastic for kids too.
We're very glad that you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again very soon. Thank you too for your very positive feedback comments, detailed description of what we have on show, and glowing recommendation to other potential visitors. It really is appreciated!

An excellent small museum with items covering policing from its inception to the present across Perthshire, Angus and Dundee. Our visit was enhanced by the personal tour we had from a retired police officer. His detailed knowledge and stories brought the whole thing to life.

Went to the museum following a review that said it was worth a visit. Certainly not disappointed. Our guide Hamish has excellent knowledge of the subject matter being a retired policeman himself. He was able to answer all our questions and added significant value to our experience. We came away better informed and appreciative of our police force.

The museum is situated in an old police station with some of the old cells repurposed as exhibition areas which is a nice touch.

The museum makes great use of the space it has and shows the history of of Tayside Police.

The staff are very knowledgeable on the forces history and the display cases within the museum.

If your interested in police history it’s well worth a visit. If you’ve got children they would love this museum as they have a room of uniforms and hats that they can try on.

The museum is free and is run by volunteers so if you enjoy it please sign the visitors book and make a donation.

Look carefully as you go around the exhibits: some are in the former cells used to hold those arrested. There are police uniforms through the ages, also handcuffs, truncheons, police whistles, etc,, also fiendish weapons - including some actually used to commit murder and stories of heroic local policemen. And a guide was on hand to show us around and answer all our questions (thank you Duncan).

Is a local muesum about policing in tayside we visited during a recent trip to Kirriemuir. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Lovely tour with fascinating local knowledge! We have a 3 month old in a pram and they where very accommodating! Will probably come back when he is school age since I can imagine children getting a lot out of it! Well worth a visit!
