Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This cafe used to be top class, a regular food and coffee stop on our bike rides. Today we were extremely disappointed at the tiny bowls of soup, waitress who did not make us feel welcome, grumpy and uninterested and wrong orders which took ages to replace. It’s not somewhere our cycling club will be hurrying to go back to. What has happened to this place! 😢 . Expensive and definitely not generous with portion sizes. Just greedy now

You don't have to stay here to enjoy the restaurant and gift shop. I had a lovely plate of homemade soup after walking the dog at nearby Backwater dam. The gift shop is fantastic and the sausages we bought were the best we've had for years! We are very lucky to live closeby...

We stayed in The Old Bothy as a family, had everything we needed and the little treats are an added bonus. The main cooker was out of action but was supplied an air fryer which we were happy with. Having the utility room for the washing and drying was fab (you can't rely on Scottish weather). Bedrooms very spacious and comfy. The added bonus of a hot tub was great. Loved the nature trail and seeing the animals on site (duck pond and ducks, donkeys, goats, chickens, pigs and red deer). The court yard shop is lovely if a tad expensive the lady in there on the sunday was very helpful with info about local places to visit and the coffee shop on site is lovely. Beautiful scenery and the river isla up the road was beautiful with the waterfall. Can't wait to visit again next year

Cafe was lovely, staff in there were really nice. However the female staff member in the court yard gift shop was very rude and not friendly. We felt very unwelcome. I was looking at a toy to buy my child and she snatched it out my hand.

Stayed in The Old Byre for a week with family and friends. Excellent self-catering accommodation. Lovely cafe on site. Fantastic gift shop on site. Nature trail suitable for all ages. Staff are all friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and helpful. We had a health issue in the cafe which initially appeared to be serious but thankfully turned out not to be and the staff were unbelievably helpful. Phoned for an ambulance, drove to get a local GP, drove to get a local retired nurse, ran to a nearby school to get a defibrillator. One of the staff took our 5 year old grandson to see the animals, feed the ducks, got him an ice-cream and stayed with him until the ambulance arrived and got situation resolved. Nothing we can say would be enough to show how much we appreciate the help we received that day. We will be going back.

I’ve been to Peel Farm a few times but was a little disappointed recently: we ate outside as it was a lovely day and everything was served in takeaway stuff. Not only was this very environmentally unfriendly (the packaging was marked recyclable but the only bins were normal black bins) but having ordered a full scottish breakfast it was actually really hard to eat - all the elements were stacked into a tiny container on top of each other. We would have eaten in if we had been made aware about all the packaging for eating on the outside tables. Not the best experience sadly.

Cappuchino coffee was so weak it wasn't clear it was coffee. The burger tasted good, but at less than half the size of the bun ( see the photo ), I felt cheated. It came with a leaf of lettuce and a tablespoonful of potato salad, beetroot salad, relish and some crisps. Friendly staff and cute little outdoor cabins to dodge the showers, but I wouldn't go back.

We went for a walk to Reekie Linn waterfall and then drove up to Peel Farm for a cuppa. Great place, friendly staff and great choice of cakes and goodies!
