Ring of Steall - this lesser known trail of the Scottish Highlands became a wonderful memory thanks to Rich.He coached us throughout the hike, and planned the scrambles according to our (beginner) level of experience. His knowledge of the history of the Mamores also impressed. Maximum safety, sharp planning and good stories - an excellent mix for a day out.

Climbing Ben Nevis was fun with great views all around, this was only made better with Richard as a guide. He is an awesome guy to talk to and learn from, we had a wonderful time chatting about everything from video games to snow climbing as we did the ascent up Nevis. He knows a great deal of history about the mountain, local wildlife, plants, and people. If you’re deciding between a few guides, just pick Richard, you will have a fantastic time!

As a regular summer and occasional winter hill walker I wanted to develop winter skills including map navigation, crampon and ice axe techniques. Rich was a great guide as well as really good and knowledgeable company over the tailored three days. Each day was decided on weather forecasts / avalanche assessments and areas I wished to see and where I could practice the skills I wanted to improve on as well as to enjoy the experience. As a munro bagger it was great to experience the training and techniques while completing some classic winter walks including the Carn Mor Dearg peak and over the arrete to Ben Nevis followed by Buachaille Etive Beag and Buchaille Etive Mor on successive days achieving 6 new Munros for me. Rich is a qualified winter guide with years of experience and throughout the three days was both good company and knowledgeable. He was great at coaching me on not just techniques but on risk assessment and route choice and I would definitely recommend Rich for either a set skills course or a tailored one.

Had the pleasure of going out with Rich on a two day Winter Skills Course in the West Highlands. Rich was incredible knowledgeable and great company across the two days. Before we arrived Rich was incredibly thorough going through with us our experience, history and ability to ensure we could maximise the value of the course. Across two days we managed to cover safe winter travel, navigation, ice axe safety & self arrest, crampon travel and understanding weather & topography. I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend anyone wanting a guide or mountain leader to head his way.

Rich kept me well informed from the point of contact, what to expect with the weather conditions, fitness and the necessary kit needed, also the potential hazards as we were taking our dog with us (German shepherd)
On our ascent rich explained with his plethora of knowledge, the surrounding areas and mountain habitat.
He also assisted me and my partner with the dog in the more treacherous areas. Taking time to explain different lacing techniques to prevent boot rub and showing the correct way to use crampons.
At the summit we had Lunch and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and clear sky's with amazing views (Rich got some brilliant pictures)
On our descent Rich assisted an inexperienced climber (who came ill-prepared) he personally lowered him to safety from the icey summit for around 25 minutes.
It was amazing to watch a professional at work but was close reminder to how dangerous Ben nevis can be.
Rich definitely prevented the climber from having a fatal accident.
We had a brilliant conversation/banter all day.(never a dull moment)
Me & the Mrs highly recommend Rich Mountain experiences and will definitely use in the future.
Made the experience a joy from start to finish, Worth every penny!

A MASSIVE 10/10
Right from my initial booking Rich went above and beyond, as it was a winter hiking course he kept in touch about the local weather and how much snow had fallen before I even got there. He advised me on what to bring and also offers lots of extra info on his web site.
He took me through self arrest, navigation, avalanche awareness, useful equipment, weather, route planning and also varied terrain.
He was very easy to talk to and we had quite a laugh whilst learning so much.
He has such vast knowledge about all the mountains which he shares quite openly, nothing is too much trouble for Rich.
On the way down from summiting Ben Nevis, we came across two young lads who were incorrectly dressed for the day. One of the lads was so wet and so cold he was shaking violently. We took one look at each other an knew it was our duty to get them warmed up & down safe. luckily, we had spare kit in our bags, so we gave him some extra layers to wear & rich opens his tuck shop bag and supplied the sugary sweets needed to give him some energy. We managed to get him back on his feet and between us we walked him down. This just added to the winter hiking experience and showed to me how much of a great guy Rich really is.
I can’t recommend him enough
thank you so much for the excellent weekend in the mountains

We had such a great day bagging the four Munros of the Ring of Steall. Even though the clouds rolled in for much of the day, and the wind was ferocious at times, that just added to the excitement and with George and Phil to guide us we felt completely safe. They gave us so much information and encouragement, and were soooo patient, especially as one member of our party hurt their knee which slowed our progress. I would definitely recommend Rich Mountain Experiences and hope to walk with them again at some point in the future. Thanks for an amazing day!

Highly recommend! Had the best experience climbing Ben Nevis. Rich had so much knowledge of the mountain and knew exactly what he was doing. Had a good laugh with him too, a very enjoyable hike to the summit.

If you are looking for a mountain guide then you have found the perfect place. The experience of climbing Ben Nevis was both superb and challenging. Rich is an outstanding guide the perfect mixture of mountaineering experience, skill, patience, enthusiasm, energy and sense of humour. He helped me to achieve my personal goal and for that I will be eternally grateful and will never forget him. For these reasons this the company I strongly recommend you chose for your mountain adventure.
