Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dunadd is the crucible of Dalriada, which consisted of Argyll, down the west and included parts of Ireland around the 6th century. There's a mystic quality to the place, much like the stone circles and artefacts that have been found in the area from the birth of Scotland in the immediate post-Roman times. If you make the short climb to the top you'll appreciate the foot-shaped cup in a large prominent rock said to have been involved in coronation routines. You'll get a fine view of the Moine Mhor, over to islands and to the high points of the local area. You can imagine this as a fortified island (the sea was said to have been this far inland at the time) which was easily defended and a suitable departure point for sea-borne voyages.

Had a nice walk up to the fort.
Very quiet, only people there.
Weather was lovely. The views amazing. Give it a visit if in the area.

Ok, its not the easiest hill to get up on a wet day in march but the views are good and it was an opportunity for my wife to put her foot in the footprint on the crowing stone and declare herself the queen of scotland

What a place so steeped in history and well worth the walk up the not too distant hill to the top. The views from the top lovely and luckily we had a nice sunny day to take it all in. We all had a blast crowning ourselves rulers for Scotland with standing carefully in the place where Kings were crowned. Going round the ruined Fort was breathtaking and there was just something special about the place. If you have the time go and explore.

This Iron Age fort is thought to have been the headquarters of the kings of the ancient kingdom of Dal Riada who were crowned here. The place has great historical significance even if very limited archaeology. The climb to the top is for the active and fit, but even if, like me, you only get half way up you need strong shoes especially if it's wet. Even if you don't make it to the top the views are pretty good, but my husband who managed the ascent said that they are truly stunning from the top.

There is nothing really to see of the fort that used to be on the hill in ye olde days, but that doesn't matter. It is a fairly steep, but not overlong climb to the top and - on a good day - you are greeted with an amazing panoramic view of the local countryside. Well worth the effort.

The climb to the top is difficult but definitely worth it. The views are beautiful and it's interesting to see the historical place where kings were crowned. I would highly recommend unless you're unable to make the climb. I would not recommend it for children.

Good car parking- but we were the only ones visiting at the time so was lovely and quiet and we could make it up and down at our own pace. The path up- is not easy- and its even harder coming down, do not underestimate this. It is very uneven and very steep in places, but well worth the climb up- even though you know you have to come down again- that required sections to be done sitting down!. The views from the top are brilliant though and you know you are stood in the midst of history. Well worth the risk of a twisted ankle

We had visited locally here about 12 yrs ago when I brought my parents over for their 50th anniversary. Our ancestors were from this area and the ancient hill was a Celtic and Gaelic spot for ceremony around 500-800 AD. Well, my father the time of our previous trip couldn't make it to the top and he always had a wish to have some of his ashes spread in Scotland. It was a perfect spot to do so and I'm sure he would have agreed. Very scenic. Duntrune Castle is in view from the top with wide sweeping vistas of Loch Crinan. Were solid shoes!

A lot of reviews indicate this is a short but steep hike. Is it safe to bring a toddler if in a baby carrier?
Written 8 August 2019
As far as the climb it isn't that difficult but there are a few areas that can cause someone to trip or fall over if they aren't careful. Make sure you are used to maneuvering with a carrier and baby weight over rocky terrain just to be safe. Enjoy!

Approximately how long does the climb up/down take (for someone in moderately decent shape)?
Written 11 May 2018
No more than 20 minutes - it's not really a climb, more a walk up a good path, with a few steep bits at the end.
