Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The prices here now are ridiculous . Deli counter with smokehouse products has been removed from shop . Gross stupidity . You need an off shore bank account to take a family here now .

We’ve visited here each year for several years when we stay in the area. Today we went to buy products in the shop. Very limited products available with expiry dates from 3-7 days from our visit. The craft/gift selection was appalling in comparison to previous times when there has been a varied choice. The icing on the cake was the toiletries collection made in Somerset! Won’t go back.

Disappointed that the smokery was closed to the public, as following our last visit 10 years back, it was a must to visit.
Made up however by the amazing food in the cafe.
Home made pate and their amazing chowder were awesome.

Stopped for kippers to take home - ended up having a great cup of coffee and a charcuterie plate. Delicious. We’ll definitely stop for a full meal next time.

What a hidden Gem of a place!! I telephoned the shop to book a days fishing with an hours Fly Fishing tuition and the call was answered immediately. Booking was easy and very efficient.
I arrived at the shop twenty minutes early. I went into the shop where the gentleman working the restaurant area dealt with me very efficiently. I then went outside and met Alistair, the Ghilly, who checked my 30 year old fishing equipment. After approximately 20 minutes of casting fly line practice, we were off on what I can only call 'A lifetime of waiting experience!'
We started fishing with Alistair showing me how to cast the fly line correctly but I did not catch anything in the small pond. We decided to venture into the Lilly Pond and 'WOW!' what a difference. Huge trout were sunning themselves swimming on the surface, a wonderful sight. The area was just beautiful and Alistair just let me get on with the process of fly fishing.
The excitement was beyond belief! I had waited years to find a place such as this that would give you both a fantastic scenic environment to fish in and the opportunity to catch 'BIG' fish. Both Alistair and the young male person next to me were catching fish every other cast of the fly line. As usual I took about 25 minutes but then 'BANG' it happened, two four pound trout jumped onto my line, some 15 minutes apart. This was a fisher-persons dream. I had been waiting 45 years for this experience after only catching minnows prior to this. After finishing at the Lilly Lake I went back to the small training lake and caught a 1&1/2IB trout just to round off the day.
To sum it up a truly 5 star experience in a remarkably beautiful out of the way Scottish Estate, at a very reasonable price with a very knowledgeable Ghilly, willing to help you catch your first large fish.
I had the opportunity to take the two large fish home but they were released back into the Lilly Lake to be caught another day.
I will be visiting this location once every second week to get my 'fishermans friend!'
Thank you Inverewe Smokehouse Estate for a brilliant, wonderful and exciting day.

This is a lovely little spot set within lovely scenery. You can book the lake for fishing if that is your thing, but we preferred to do a few walks to the river and then buy some lovely smoked salmon. The café is also worth checking out and the staff were all great.

The lunch we had was very good, pleasant service. We ate smoked trout pate with sourdough toast and salad, and a haggis and mozarrella toastie. Followed up with a brownie and scone with jam and clotted cream. There is a small but well stocked shop. There is also a nice easy river walk you can do before or after eating/shopping.
