Loch Lomond shores is a mixed retail and leisure centre near the village of Balloch at the southern end of Loch Lomond. The retail part is a crescent of various shops and cafes. For many years the most prominent retailer was Jennings, an upmarket company whose flagship store was in Princes Street, Edinburgh. However, like many others, it stopped trading a few years ago, and their place was taken over by Mike Ashley, and houses two of his businesses, Sport Direct and Frasers. The other stores are a mix of clothing, Scottish souvenirs, a whisky shop, and one selling a great range of spices etc. However, be warned, make sure you have plenty of credit on your card, for prices are high. Most people who visit don't come for the shopping, but to participate in activities on offer, or just to walk around the shoreline and admire the stunning views of the loch. There are boat trips, you can hire rowing boats, canoes, kayaks, paddle bords, pedalos and bikes. A major attraction is the paddle steamer, Maid of the Loch, which operated for about 30 years until around 1980. Since then it has spent most of the time idle alongside a pier. - CMC1,048 contributionsLoch Lomond Shores, Loch Lomond in MayCame upon this place while driving around Loch Lomond. It’s a place for the summer with bike rental, boat cruises, places for food and an aquarium. Good for families. First impression wasnt great though, walk into building and there was a sport direct store, then I see it’s for foreign tourists who arrive in buses.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 June 2024
- Journeyman9 contributionsCross your legsToilets. Or more precisely, the lack of toilets available to visitors. At one end of the ‘mall’ building there is a Thornton’s Caffé coffee shop. The kind of place you would stop by for a coffee and snack, then toilet break, and then continue the visit. Paraphrasing slightly here: “Excuse me, but where are your toilets?” Standing with small child, and a sense of urgency. “We don’t have any in the cafe. There is one just outside the cafe door into the mall, but it’s closed to the public.” In fact, closed to the staff as well. I was initially directed along the mall to inside the Fraser’s unit. Keep going through it until reaching the perfume section. (There has to be a joke somewhere in this!) Yes, there are toilets. All locked. “Out of order”, said the signs - see the photo. So I asked a worker in the Fraser’s cafe - Cafe Zest - where the nearest toilets were…. So I kept walking through the length of the Fraser’s shop, then through Sports Direct and to the main centre entrance. At last! The long and winding road led me to their door. Well, the entrance at least to the public toilets! What a farcical and potentially embarrassing and uncomfortable situation for anyone in urgent need after a pit stop at a coffee shop. We had earlier been in the upstairs Jurassic Grill food place, and the sign facing the entrance at the top of the first set of stairs does have the good old “polite notice” that the toilets are for patron’s use only. Why have that unless people are repeatedly trying to use their toilets? I spoke at length with the manager of the cafe, and she completely understood my frustration with the situation, but she said that the toilets and how they operate are managed by, I believe, the Loch Lomond Shores Management Company - SC191326. If this is the correct management company, I wonder if they would care to comment? (If it is not this company then I imagine they would be quick to correct this.) ps - the automatic doors at the entrance are also out of order. pps - if you are a patron of any of the retail units then it would seem eminently fair that you can nip upstairs to Jurassic Grill toilets seeing as they are managed by the same company. (No sniggering at the back for pps now!)Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 August 2024

We visited yesterday at 2pm. Last entry is 3pm with closing time of 4pm.
2 adults and 2 children it's not cheap.
Great aquarium, the children had their hands in the rockpools, and saw the otters been fed.
At 320pm we went up to the second floor to find the cinema closed.
The upper viewing gallery was also closed.
Poor communication from the staff on the entrance desk ment we were not aware that it was only the ground floor open after 3pm
1hr and 20mins on the ground floor for £30 if poor value for money.
Surely there should be a discounted rate?
Disappointed....

We visited today and were extremely disappointed in the way Jenners has been changed.
No jewellery, childrens wear, tableware, cookware, ornaments etc. It is just like a glorified sportswear shop now.Completely ruined. No character!
Luckily enough the farmers market was opened which is always good
We certainly wont be back.

The markets are a breath of fresh air when going shopping at Loch Lomond shores.
Set in a very scenic location, we were fortunate to get some bright sunny weather on our visit, and this helped promote the area and its natural beauty.
The smells and the tastes from the market stalls made this outing more pleasant and different from the big indoor malls.
Loch Lomond shores is well worth a visit,, especially on market days, and I found the Chicken pakora to be a delicious tasty snack.

We rented bikes from Loch Lomond Rentals
€20 for 2 hours for a decent mountain bike, we were ready to go.
We went south to Dumbarton Castle, via a nice bike path along the river. At one point, we even road through a cow pasture, grazing at a short distance.
This is where the problem arose. We missed the locked gate and road through a muddy spot. No worries as we’re on mountain bikes. Bouncing through the mud, the rear derailer somehow caught the spokes and locked up the rear wheel, bending the derailer beyond onsite repair. Their operations team coordinated over whatsapp to find a place to meet us with a replacement bike. While it took 90 mins, stuff happens and we were happy to continue our ride.
On our return, we were charged €90 (40 for the derailer and 50 for delivery of the bike), for what was supposed to be a €40 rental for two bikes.
We disputed the charges as we did nothing abnormal for a mountain bike, or any bike that went through some “cow mud”
After a phone call, they credited back the delivery charge but still charged €40 for damages.
My biggest mistake was to leave a deposit in cash. The credit card company would have charged back the fee.
If I had done something to cause damage, I’d have paid and thanked them for their service to get us going. To not accept damage and our lost time because the bike failed was quite disappointing, nor did the owner even ask to speak to us when we disputed.
It’s sad to see a merchant take advantage of a locked in location.

We went on a Sunday when the market is on. Defo worth going on a market day for more variety of things to see. Sadly no gluten free food stands. Thorntons Café did offer ye olde GF favourite jacket potato. The café in the department store did better with a few options plus sandwiches could be made GF and three cake options but 2 were sold out. A few stores are closed due to not surviving lockdown sadly but picked up some bargain clothes for teens! The locally produced gift shops are gorgeous though with some talented pieces in them. Best part....the buskers they were AMAZING. Pot luck if you get the same I guess.

No signs up to say changing rooms closed or young rent allowed to try anything on. Very ruse middle aged man in Jenners just shouted at my girlfriend that she wasn't allowed to try anything on after standing watching her. You could have told her before she did it and also not been rude, sarcastic and impolite when you spoke to her. There are ways to manage situations. You should not work in retail if you don't have people skills.

We'd like to offer you our sincere apologies for your girlfriend's experience. We have checked with Jenners and they confirmed that the fitting rooms are closed and there are signs around the store asking customers to not try any items on. However, the manager is going to speak with staff to ensure that this does not happen again and they advise customers correctly of the current policy.

Never ever believe them when they say "if you've seen one Loch then you've seen them all". That statement couldn't be further from the truth because every Loch has it's own uniqueness and it's own beauty. If you love nature, you'll love every Loch for what it is.

Loch Lomond is beautiful. Loch Lomond shores is an eyesore. How on earth permission was granted to construct the monstrosity of a building that houses the sea life centre and the surrounding shops it’s hard to imagine. And as for the endless empty car parking areas that would be more suitable for Disney World than a pathetic mini golf and other shabby bits and pieces what a waste of concrete. A lesson for planners everywhere on how not to ruin a natural wonder. My advice is to stand at the waters edge and look at the marvellous view of the lake whilst pretending that the mess behind you doesn’t exist: unless of course you think Sports Direct and Loch Lomond are synonymous.

I have reviewed many places and hotels from various parts of the world, but this time I am reviewing an attraction just two miles from my home.
In more recent years a group of volunteers set up a charity to restore the ship, it has been a very slow process with lack of funds making it difficult, but now she is out of the water and undergoing restoration to hopefully see her back sailing again.
Theer is also a Sea Life Centre, housed in a round tower building, at the top there is a cafe from which you get amazing views. You can access it without having to pay and visit the acquarium.
Other attraction include a bird of prey centre, a treetop experience with walkways suspended between the trees , picnic areas, crazy golf and a large childrens play area. At times there is a land train to take you around the area, and twice monthly there is a farmers market
Car parking is free, and there are hundreds of spaces, including a large number of disabled spaces. This is a popular visit for tourists, but being only 40 minutes from Glasgow by train, and similar to drive, weekends are busy during the spring to autumn seasons, but still popular even in winter, when the nearby Ben Lomond is often snow clad.
The village of Balloch is just a short walk away, here you will find a few shops, pubs, restaurants and a supermarket. More boat trips operate from here.
If you have never been, I would recommend you give it a visit.

It was nice to see the changes, some new shop i think the Sport direct and Fraser are need it bring it up to modern day the only issue i had was with the cafe in Fraser, i think the supervisor need to remeber her mistakes are not the customers fault if she looked at here own attitude she might get on better. Apart from that the food was good all the other shop offer something good, great views and nice walks dont really like sea life very over priced .
We had an enjoyable time . If i was to recommend something it would be to have a really good coffee shop.
