My student daughter parked here in august last year, paid the fee and still received a fine. They didn’t accept her appeal and eventually her grandmother paid the fine, now £160, so they would leave her alone. Within weeks a different debt collector started demanding £170 and they continue to do so now. I have been in touch with a lawyer for advice.

Parking

The south car park in Luss is designed by the operators (Parking Eye) to confuse car owners and maximise the revenue they make issuing £100 parking fines. The system requires you to provide your registration number and manually input the time you have remained in the car park. The machine defaults to £1.00 which some people may think is the payment due if they were in the car park for a short period of time.
The system utilises ANPR (automatic number recognition)cameras which records drivers arrival/departure times and registration numbers so the operator can detect vehicle owners who did not pay the appropriate fee.
The system can obviously calculate the time each car remained in the car park so why can’t their ticket machines automatically calculate the amount due when the car owner enters their reg number,on return to their car,and print out the appropriate ticket.Parking Eye don’t do this as it would drastically reduce the number of car owners making genuine mistakes and have a knock on effect on the revenue they collect issuing parking charges.
Why would anyone deliberately try to avoid paying a parking charge of £1 per hour and risk a £100 parking fine,it just doesn’t make sense.
My son was also a victim of this parking scam and received a £100 parking fine from Parking Eye.He did not respond to the letters sent by them or provide them with their request for details of the driver at the time the alleged parking infringement took place. He ignored the subsequent dept recovery letters trying to intimidate him into submission and eventually they gave up.It should be noted in Scotland the private parking companies can only pursue the driver of the vehicle at the time the alleged parking infringement took place not the registered keeper.
If these companies meant business they would send out letters recorded delivery and eventually call at the registered keepers address to make further enquiries before even considering court action.
If Parking Eye want car owners to pay their alleged parking infringements they need to replace the confusing signage and make sure their ticket machines simply provide payment due when the car owner inserts the vehicle registration number.

Lovely little village and well worth a stop if you’re traveling through the area. It was crowded but we still enjoyed our visit. Large parking area as you head into town.

The village is lovely, even in the rain.
But payment for parking, then payment for use of toilet facilities alongside limited amenities all seemed to be aimed at taking advantage of tourists.
We had been looking forward to visiting as we enjoyed the visit a number of years ago. Disappointing.

Very disappointing visiting Luss today on our holiday in our Motorhome. There was no designated parking for motor homes in what is a good size car park. It didn’t say that motorhomes were not allowed. We even went into the local shop to ask and where told as long as we purchase a ticket and are not causing an obstruction then we can park across two bays. On returning to our motorhome one hour later we discovered we had received a parking ticket. This is not the way to treat visitors who are spending their money in your cafes and shops. Sort yourself out Luss, we cannot be the only visitors arriving in a Motorhome. We will definitely not be coming again and would advise other Motorhome users to STAY AWAY!

We parked here and on our return paid for our ticket by inputting our reg number into the machine. The machine immediately churned out a ticket for £1 which we assumed was correct as we had been there about an hour. Not so, they count the time spent in the car park from the moment you enter to the moment you exit. So we got a £100 fine for being several minutes over the one hour.
Anyway we appealed and got the fine cancelled. Please contact me if you get a ticket I would be happy to try and help you.

PS When we were there there were loads of cars parked on the road just outside the car park, at the time we wondered why given that the car park fees seemed very reasonable. Clearly, the owners of the cars were aware of the scam.

Honestly and genuinely paid for a parking ticket in Luss Car Park when visiting the village but received a fine for £100 for not paying enough. At no point did the machine ask us to pay more than £1. The exact same thing happened to our friends who were with us. Appealed with POPLA but lost the appeal. The signage is incredibly misleading and the amount of issued parking fines and disappointed people will have a long term detrimental effect on the tourism of the area. Very sad.

Luss is a beautiful village with lovely scenery. But a bitter taste was left in my mouth when a week or two later I was made to feel like some criminal by Parking Eye, the private company that own the new car park nearby. In an age of Covid, many ticket machines have contactless payment options. While this was on the machine, this did not work. The signs suggested that it would be easy enough to download an app to pay for a ticket much like other companies such as RingGo. However, not only is the internet connection woefully insufficient but the app itself claimed to have processed my ticket. However, this was clearly not the case as this did not appear on my bank balance meaning that I have been scammed out of £100 for a parking ticket.

I understand Luss has a severe parking issue. However, if you want Luss to be completely abandoned in several years then by all means go about your shady business dealings. You may as well employ highway bandits to rob incoming tourists. In this age of COVID, it is BAFFLING that you do not have the basic facilities that so many others have to get a piece of paper that allows you to park. I have never had a parking ticket in my life, I always pay. And yet in one swoop you have made me feel like some kind of crook when the real crooks are the ones who run the car park.

You do realise this will encourage more illegal parking right? Then again it won't matter when Parking Eye lines their pockets with the money of families and the elderly. This has been going on since June according to the other reviews, and during an ongoing global pandemic?

Shame on you. Shame.

When I arrived in Luss Car Park I paid for a full day's parking by phone.
Within a week I have been hit with a £100 fine.

When I was there the car park was almost empty with cars parked on the road.
