This local goal is worth a visit as it gives an insight into Stranraer's past and a trip to the top via the stone staircase is worth the effort as it gives a great view over Loch Ryan.

Sited in the centre of town and with free access this is a treat. Helpful staff and a good pocket history displayed as you climb up. The roof top offers amazing views as an added bonus.

Visited the castle - entry is free, but donations are welcome. There are quite a lot of steps, which wind up to the roof, but much of interest on all levels, including a film about the castle and more.
