The Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee is the only Museum of its kind in the United Sates. The Museum grounds consist of 3 and a half acres of land directly over looking the Mississippi River just south of downtown Memphis. On the grounds you will find a sculpture garden, a fully functioning blacksmith shop and foundry, a library holding our permanent collection, and our main Museum which houses rotating exhibitions of emerging and established metalsmiths worldwide. The Metal Museum is the only institution in the United States devoted exclusively to the advancement of the art and craft of fine metal work. This is achieved through exhibitions, collections, conservation, restoration and consulting services, classes, internship and apprenticeship opportunities, and artist residencies. The value of the Metal Museum extends well beyond its exhibitions and facilities recognizing and promoting the careers of metalsmiths.

I've lived in Memphis for years, known about the Metal Museum, but never been. The museum is small, but the indoor and outdoor galleries as well as the location by the river are absolutely lovely. The fee is really inexpensive too! I really like architectural...More

We intentionally visited this place, not to go inside the museum, but, rather, to see the outdoor sculptures and see the amazing view of the Mississippi from their ornate gazebo. The front gates are unique & stunning, many of the sculptures throughout the courtyard are...More

There were two interesting exhibits when we were there. One was a jewelry artist and the other was an anti-gun sculptor. Both were great. The permanent collection is fairly small. There was no one working in the shop so we didn't get to see any...More

Interesting and informative demos. Museum and collection are fairly small. My favorite was the old coffers and padlocks, which are upstairs in the library building.
