Completed in 1290, this is a fine example of a concentric circle, with outer walls serving as a line of defense around a series of inner walls and the main living quarters.

We were in north Wales, so we thought we’d give this a go and actually it was better than we expected. By their nature, ancient castles are usually more or less ruins, but this had more to it than most. The walks along the battlements...More

Great castle with excellent views all round the surrounding area. Not a place to visit if you dont like heights so stay firmly on the ground level as the upper walls dont have safety rails

A great example of a castle from the 1200s. Some good information placed around the site to help bring the place to life. Make sure you’ve brought your walking legs, as lots of steps!

Harlech isn't as big as Conwy or Caernarfon but it's still a fantastic castle with its own stunning prescience and that you can spend a few hours visiting. Disappointingly, you can't get an audio guide which does seem to be behind the times so you...More

This is arguably the best, and most spectacular, of Edward 1’s string of castles which encircled North Wales. It sits high on the cliffs above Harlech and, when it was built in the late 13th Century, it would have been a wonderful example of shock...More

While officially dogs are welcome, my recollection is that this doesn't apply to all parts (for safety reasons). Your dog needs to be kept on a leash at all times.
