Medieval Lords and Princes of all persuasions liked to ensure their salvation by having pet monks say prayers for them as often as possible. That way they could do pretty much whatever they liked and God would turn a blind eye. Or at least that...More

About a mile off the main road, itโ€™s worth turning off past the caravan park to look at the ruins of this tiny unfinished abbey. Henry VIII had done his usual, but there are still pretty arches, towers and a feeling of peace.

An interesting bit of history. Free entry and well labelled, you can imagine what it would have looked like in its hey day. Lovely walk down to the bridge and river, watched huge trout leaping for flies.

Tripadvisor i noticed said duration is 2-3hrs. This is not the case, 30mins tops. However, still beautiful and a wonderful piece of history. Grass and surroundings are well kept. Dogs welcome and there is free entry and free parking.

The abbey is just a ruin but beautifully between mountains and near what looks like a holiday trailer park. Interesting to look at the information sign and take some nice pics from a good angle so you can avoid the trailers.

This place is well worth visiting, but it needs a little more development and easier access (it is kind of hidden).
