    Absolute Heaven !
What an absolute gem! Found this fishery whilst on holiday in Gloucestershire. I was made to feel very welcome by Gary and his good lady, and he gave me lots of advice about which flies to use and how to use them. The fishery consists of three adjoining pools, the first being crystal clear (hence it being called the "Gin Lake") with plenty of trout cruising around and rather frustratingly ignoring any offerings, the other two pools are bigger and have plenty of open space to cast. It was a very friendly atmosphere amongst the anglers and every so often it was nice to stop, go and grab a mug of tea, or just take time out, have a chat and continue fishing. There is food available and my Bacon Sandwich was the best I have had in a long time. (apparently the breakfasts are to die for!) I managed to catch a lovely 2 pound rainbow on a lure in the middle pool and it put up a good fight before being landed, it was in great condition and full finned. It would be very easy to be a fishery that takes your money and treats you as revenue rather than a customer. The big difference at this fishery was that you felt welcome and the customer service received was very genuine and in this instance Bigwell stands out loud and clear. If you want a lovely atmosphere, great food, great fishing with people who genuinely care about your custom then this is the place. Looking forward to meeting you again next year !

    Great fishing experience
Great location. Good fishing. Helpful owners. Everything needed for a day’s fishing available ( toilet, cafe as well as flies and other fishing bits for sale) in a dramatic site, with lots of other wildlife to spot as well . Saw kingfisher, buzzard, little grebe, ravens and best of all a goshawk, Would highly recommend for any keen fly fisherman visiting the local area!

    Great day's fly fishing
Well, I hadn't picked up a fly rod for nearly 2 years and a visit to Bigwell was well overdue. Had a fantastic days fishing (9 trout to around 4lb) and Gary's signature breakfast 😋 All I'll say is, I won't be leaving it another 2 years until my next visit. Overall, a great relaxing days fishing, a welcoming and friendly owner, in a great location 😃

Myself and a couple of friends booked a days fishing here at Bigwell on a Saturday and when we turned up at half 7 we found that we were struggling for a spot to fish as there was so many there! It is a nice place with lovely water but the ponds are way too small for the amount of Anglers that were there! I counted 18 in total. Me nor my friends blanked which was good but it was a tough day! It seems really over fished and really don't get the booking in system if they are going to let as many anglers as they want on there! Was honestly expecting a better day... Not in a rush to go back! Better fisheries around

Gary always gives a warm welcome, friendly, helpful & always happy to offer advice & assistance to the novice angler, not only that, he makes a cracking fry-up at an excellent price. You can tell this guy is in the game for the love of it, prices are fair & the site offers a lovely location, with plenty of fish. Of course, they’re not always happy to take your fly but that’s half the fun, but even if you don’t catch, you’ll meet nice people, in a great place.

We try to get here every wednesday and there first thing, usually before Gary.Fishing is challenging as the fish vary their diet so much that they may take dries or egg flies or buzzers or lures.Covid rules apply in the lodge.
My mate has a fish on his first cast on one of his egg flies a bouncing betty. My first fish was on a white and yellow egg.First fish have to be killed if you are on the C&R ticket.
Throughout the day which was not good weatherwise, heavy rain and a stiff breeze,we hooked fish but were unable to land them.A lot of weed in the 3 pools.
Unfortunately due to the guidelines in Wales on Covid there are very few anglers from there coming so if you think it will be full then ring first. There is an online booking service.I will be back next wednesday.

My first visit to this fishery and having been in lockdown for months it was great to be fishing again. This fishery has clear waters and targeting fish can be very challenging but enjoyable. It is a popular fishery and booking is essential, facilities are good and the owner is very friendly. I didn’t catch any trout on this visit, this was down to my fishing skills and not the lack of fish as others did much better than me, but it is all about being out and enjoying the day with other anglers. Will certainly go again.

First time at Bigwell fishery. We had a warm and friendly welcome and spent 6-7 hours on catch and release tickets. It was a successfull day, having caught 7 fish between father and son. Good quality fighting fish! Would come back for another crack at the fish!

Our usual weekly visit.Gary there at 0700am on a very cold and frosty morning, minus 4 degrees. No ice on any of the pools. Some nice fish landed all hard fighting.Grateful for the free hot drinks to put some warmth back into us.Fish free rising on all the pools later in the day.Great chat with Gary who "persuaded" me to buy certain nymphs that did work.Great food.Highly recommended any time of the year.

I visited BIGWELL for the first time on Tuesday the 15th June 2021.

What a superb experience.

A warm welcome from our hosts Gary and Sue

A superb breakfast in a comfortable club house.

Free tuition from Gary for 3 of my group.

Superb gin clear water and superb condition fish.

A very scenic spot in the middle of the valley.

Cannot fault this venue and the warm welcome we received.

We will definitely be back.

First visit today and was not disappointed. Arrived just as it was opening up and was given great guidance by Gary as to where to park etc. So, first cast into the Gin pond and my fly got nailed, unfortunately the fish spat the fly just before landing. Good rainbow taken next cast though. 2 other fish hooked but threw the fly. I’m no pro so the space available to cast is fab. Great food, great location. I do have one issue, the fact I’ve never been before!! Well worth the visit.
