Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As the river usk had been closed due to the unusual high temperatures snd we had driven down from derby to fish, we decided to have a look at bigwell trout fishery, I must say we did not fish this venue, we were all very disappointed the ponds are very small they were very weeded up we saw a lot of trout that looked in poor condition, even though we were desperate to catch fish we all thought that this was not a place that we would even consider fishing.

Great location. Good fishing. Helpful owners. Everything needed for a day’s fishing available ( toilet, cafe as well as flies and other fishing bits for sale) in a dramatic site, with lots of other wildlife to spot as well . Saw kingfisher, buzzard, little grebe, ravens and best of all a goshawk,
Would highly recommend for any keen fly fisherman visiting the local area!

What an absolute gem!
Found this fishery whilst on holiday in Gloucestershire.
I was made to feel very welcome by Gary and his good lady, and he gave me lots of advice about which flies to use and how to use them. The fishery consists of three adjoining pools, the first being crystal clear (hence it being called the "Gin Lake") with plenty of trout cruising around and rather frustratingly ignoring any offerings, the other two pools are bigger and have plenty of open space to cast. It was a very friendly atmosphere amongst the anglers and every so often it was nice to stop, go and grab a mug of tea, or just take time out, have a chat and continue fishing. There is food available and my Bacon Sandwich was the best I have had in a long time. (apparently the breakfasts are to die for!)
I managed to catch a lovely 2 pound rainbow on a lure in the middle pool and it put up a good fight before being landed, it was in great condition and full finned.
It would be very easy to be a fishery that takes your money and treats you as revenue rather than a customer. The big difference at this fishery was that you felt welcome and the customer service received was very genuine and in this instance Bigwell stands out loud and clear.
If you want a lovely atmosphere, great food, great fishing with people who genuinely care about your custom then this is the place.
Looking forward to meeting you again next year !

The ambiance of this gem of a fishery, the camaraderie of keen flyfishers, the great head of trout in all pools, regularly restocked with premium trout, the excellent food and beverage prepared by Gary or Sue who are themselves gems....
Highly recommended!!!

Gary always gives a warm welcome, friendly, helpful & always happy to offer advice & assistance to the novice angler, not only that, he makes a cracking fry-up at an excellent price. You can tell this guy is in the game for the love of it, prices are fair & the site offers a lovely location, with plenty of fish. Of course, they’re not always happy to take your fly but that’s half the fun, but even if you don’t catch, you’ll meet nice people, in a great place.

Myself and a couple of friends booked a days fishing here at Bigwell on a Saturday and when we turned up at half 7 we found that we were struggling for a spot to fish as there was so many there! It is a nice place with lovely water but the ponds are way too small for the amount of Anglers that were there! I counted 18 in total. Me nor my friends blanked which was good but it was a tough day! It seems really over fished and really don't get the booking in system if they are going to let as many anglers as they want on there! Was honestly expecting a better day... Not in a rush to go back! Better fisheries around

First visit today and was not disappointed. Arrived just as it was opening up and was given great guidance by Gary as to where to park etc. So, first cast into the Gin pond and my fly got nailed, unfortunately the fish spat the fly just before landing. Good rainbow taken next cast though. 2 other fish hooked but threw the fly. I’m no pro so the space available to cast is fab. Great food, great location. I do have one issue, the fact I’ve never been before!! Well worth the visit.

Fishing a dry fly on the clear waters in beautiful surroundings was a wonderful treat. Sue and Gary are great hosts who made us feel welcome, gave advice on flies and techniques and prepared an awesome breakfast.

Excellent visit at Bigwell. Lovely bank holiday visit.
We came today, me, my partner, 9 year old son and baby 6 months! The boys caught 4 beautifully sized trout which put up a good fight before being caught. Absolutely beautiful area, so relaxing with plenty of wildlife. I loved the dogs too, who were extremely friendly and great with the baby too! I love dogs, but they wouldn’t of been any trouble to anyone who didn’t, very well behaved. I noticed fishermen tucking into what looked like a lovely cooked breakfast. Toilet amenities were well kept which is sometimes uncommon for a fishery. Area was extremely well kept. Parking available. The keepers of the site were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The boys can’t wait for their next outing and there is talk of coming again next week already!

Another lovely visit yesterday to this fabulous fishery for my son and I... Well stocked ponds with hard fighting trout, 2 of the lakes are Gin clear the other 2 slightly coloured. Well kept banks with easy access to fishing spots... Nice little clubhouse which serves a fantastic breakfast (worth a trip for the break alone). Gary the owner is really helpful and pleasant, overall a lovely day out
