Excellent visit at Bigwell. Lovely bank holiday visit.
We came today, me, my partner, 9 year old son and baby 6 months! The boys caught 4 beautifully sized trout which put up a good fight before being caught. Absolutely beautiful area, so relaxing with plenty of wildlife. I loved the dogs too, who were extremely friendly and great with the baby too! I love dogs, but they wouldn’t of been any trouble to anyone who didn’t, very well behaved. I noticed fishermen tucking into what looked like a lovely cooked breakfast. Toilet amenities were well kept which is sometimes uncommon for a fishery. Area was extremely well kept. Parking available. The keepers of the site were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The boys can’t wait for their next outing and there is talk of coming again next week already!

Another lovely visit yesterday to this fabulous fishery for my son and I... Well stocked ponds with hard fighting trout, 2 of the lakes are Gin clear the other 2 slightly coloured. Well kept banks with easy access to fishing spots... Nice little clubhouse which serves a fantastic breakfast (worth a trip for the break alone). Gary the owner is really helpful and pleasant, overall a lovely day out

This was my first visit to Bigwell and a very enjoyable one. Very well-maintained grounds (actually a bit too well-maintained given the amount of strimming and mowing going on during the day!), nice lodge with tackle essentials and honest food, friendly and helpful owner and - most importantly - very well stocked with high quality, hard fighting fish. The ponds are small but clear and cool (especially important when so many fisheries close during hot weather). I'd say it's an ideal spot to learn to fly fish since many fish are so close in - a decent cast would hit the opposite bank. Also, a good place for more serious reservoir anglers who want a different challenge. Fishing started off extremely easy - take or fish per cast - but got progressively harder through the day. As always, sticking to smaller, natural patterns more successful on C+R fish that have seen it all before. A nice (3lb+) tiger trout as my 10th and final fish was a great way to finish the day. Highly recommended.

I visited BIGWELL for the first time on Tuesday the 15th June 2021.

What a superb experience.

A warm welcome from our hosts Gary and Sue

A superb breakfast in a comfortable club house.

Free tuition from Gary for 3 of my group.

Superb gin clear water and superb condition fish.

A very scenic spot in the middle of the valley.

Cannot fault this venue and the warm welcome we received.

We will definitely be back.

Amazing Fishery, perfect size, crystal clear waters, plentiful fish that put up a great fight, owners are so friendly and helpful. Good honest food ( I tried the breakfast, wish I had enough space for the lunch) also know how to make a proper mug of tea. Can’t recommend it enough.

A great day’s fishing. I had 4 fish in my bag and caught my 10 fish catch and release limit. All fish were over 2lb in top condition and fighting hard.

We try to get here every wednesday and there first thing, usually before Gary.Fishing is challenging as the fish vary their diet so much that they may take dries or egg flies or buzzers or lures.Covid rules apply in the lodge.
My mate has a fish on his first cast on one of his egg flies a bouncing betty. My first fish was on a white and yellow egg.First fish have to be killed if you are on the C&R ticket.
Throughout the day which was not good weatherwise, heavy rain and a stiff breeze,we hooked fish but were unable to land them.A lot of weed in the 3 pools.
Unfortunately due to the guidelines in Wales on Covid there are very few anglers from there coming so if you think it will be full then ring first. There is an online booking service.I will be back next wednesday.

My first visit to this fishery and having been in lockdown for months it was great to be fishing again. This fishery has clear waters and targeting fish can be very challenging but enjoyable. It is a popular fishery and booking is essential, facilities are good and the owner is very friendly. I didn’t catch any trout on this visit, this was down to my fishing skills and not the lack of fish as others did much better than me, but it is all about being out and enjoying the day with other anglers. Will certainly go again.
