This is an extremely well preserved gaol. A very interesting building with good information about how the system worked.

Staying in Beaumaris we decided to visit the Gaol out of interest. Had no preconceived ideas about this activity and wasn't expecting too much but we found the building and information provided really interesting. It is a sombre place, you can feel the intimidating nature of the place before you even enter. It is highly educational though and brings home... More

On arrival my husband asked if we could go in with a wheelchair to be told no, but I could go and buy something in the shop if I wanted to. I wish some sort of disability access was available, or at least some sort of video or talk, just because I can't walk, I'm still interested in history.

Beaumaris gaol is an imposing building with its high and forbidding wall. Given its age, it was quite advanced for its time with heated cells and a signaling system in the cells for the inmates to summon help if needed. The treadmill was used to pump water to a storage tank and was one of the options for those sentenced... More

If you are fascinated with old jails, stop by. Otherwise just see the old building and maybe take a photo. Not a great tour.

This visit was most interesting to see the living conditions of prisoners in olden times. The information panels were very "informative" and it was an eye-opener to see what "crimes" prisoners were jailed for. It does take time to read all the panels, but a shame not to do so. The grandchildren were very interested too in the visit.

This was our 2nd visit to the gaol, there was no audio tour this time but we were happy to just wander at our own pace. It has lots of information about the gaol and its use after, it was good to see some of the tasks prisoners were forced to perform. We didn't bother with the courthouse this time.... More

We first two enthusiastic ladies who explained what to do and where to go to enjoy the visit. Being Thursday, it wasn't very busy so we had time to read all the displays which were bi-lingual and explained in great detail the history and stories of various folk who endured prison for various misdeeds. Well worth a visit.
