- Bev BBlackburn, United Kingdom765 contributionsA Very Pleasant VisitWe just called here for a quick look around, but stayed longer as there was more to see than anticipated, I particularly liked the Three Old Harps Exhibition about the 3 triple harps with links to Anglesey. There was harp music playing in the exhibition area too. Free Entry here, the café was extremely busy, the toilets were clean.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 October 2023
- Carole E33 contributionsTry the café as well as the galleryWe come here every year in November to the art gallery, which is always changing and always has something interesting to look at. Last year the café was closed, which was a shame, but it has now reopened under new management, and it is excellent. Apparently, it is always busy, but they managed to fit us in even if it was just for coffee and cake. The cakes are wonderful, with a good choice of Gluten free, and the scones are huge. The Christmas fayre was back on upstairs and is always a good place to get interesting Christmas presents. The shop downstairs was very good too. I'm glad we stopped by.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 November 2023
- LauraNLondon, United Kingdom51 contributionsBeautiful art plus a craft fairThis compact gallery is always worth a visit. Permanent exhibitions are excellent and the short term exhibitions are always well curated. At the moment the David Nash is sublime. The seasonal craft fair was an unexpected bonus and brimming with amazing local art, craft, jewellery etc The cafe is always reliably good too.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 December 2023
- sally louWarrington, United Kingdom8 contributionsGreat for a wet weather family outing or relaxing hour or so out.Such a lovely gallery. Try to visit at least a few times each year to see the exhibitions which whilst some seem static, others change over the year. Something for everyone here and all different forms of art - drawing, painting, photography, textiles, etc. So relaxing to wander round. The bonus is also the lovely shop and new cafe.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 April 2024
- LF2218Rotherham, United Kingdom65 contributionsGluten free / coeliac friendly!13 of us turned up for breakfast didnt get chance to pre book but no worries - all options were amazing. So much gluten free choice. Staff friendly and clued up felt very safe and had a "normal" experience didnt feel different etc. Delicious food and atmosphere. Would hugely reccomend. The shop, gallery and play area were great and kept all of us entertained and happy - spent a few hours there. Thank you!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 April 2024
- Sioned E90 contributionsFantastic 😍I had never visited oriel mon before. Its absolutely wonderful, not just an art Gallery it has a good collection of old items and maps. The gift shop is lovely. I didn't go to the Caffe as it was full...... Hopefully next timeVisited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 April 2024
- RoblieCoventry, United Kingdom42 contributionsGood but ...Well organised. Some great exhibitions - Kyffin Williams when I was there, The gift shop had lots of lovely items to peruse and the smells emanating from the cafe ...sublime. The outside space was slightly lacking. It could have had much more landscaping to make it a pleasant place; both inside and out. But there were more weeds than plans and the play area looked very sorry for itself. I know it's an art gallery and the pieces of art were displayed very well but as I said, there could be a lot more care and attention to the outside area; making it a lovely day out rather than a place to visit.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 9 April 2024
- Marcus K3 contributionsSuperbActually spoke to the chef at the end, to tell him how fantastic he had made the beef chilli on home made chips. Fabulous beef mince sourced from the local butcher. Worthy of a 10/10 review, nothing more to say 😀Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 4 July 2024
- organist66Braintree, United Kingdom88 contributionsGood museum, good gallery, plus a great shop and restaurantWe visited Oriel Mon to learn more about Anglesey on our first visit there. The museum is excellent, with free admission and child-friendly features; I just found it a bit hard to work out the best order to walk round. On our visit they had a lovely display by the nature artist C. Tunnicliffe. Good changing art exhibitions are a feature of Oriel Mon too. Top marks for the gift shop: you can buy all your greetings cards here without any trouble! The restaurant is clearly a local favourite for breakfasts and light lunches. We just wanted the soup of the day, but it was homemade and delicious, served in generous huge bowls.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 September 2024

We've visited the gallery a number of times and bought more than one exhibition painting. The staff have always done their best to be helpful. The cafe staff (manager?) is now letting the side down. We went in and waited for about ten minutes to be seated at a table as the signage sensibly requested. Other people were coming in and (probably in ignorance) going straight up to the coffee serving hatch. After a while I asked that maybe we should be dealt with before others. A man came out from the back, didn't ask what the problem was and told me repeatedly to be patient. I tried to explain that I was and had been, and to explain the problem, but he refused to listen, and told me that if I didn't like it I could go to the shop or leave. As he walked away he told me not to aggressive - and I had to point out that he had approached me and not the other way around. Clearly his attitude is that the customer is always wrong, and he has no responsibility for administering the system his signs demand.

When I visited there was a display of work by a well known local artist Charles Tunnicliffe, he painted very detailed bird and nature paintings. Also there was an exhibition by the local art group and an exhibition of local history of Anglesey. The shop has very high quality items for sale, many of which are local to the area. There is a cafe provided by a local charity which had a variety of snacks and meals available. The food and drink that we had was delecious, faily priced, hot and arrived promptly. There is plenty of parking available and some play activities for children outside as well.

Been three times over the last few years and am looking forward to my next trip. I must bow in front of the newly erected statue of legendary Ynys Mon artist/genius Sir Kyffin Williams! There are galleries of work from local artisans, forever changing by the seasons. Lots of other great exhibits too. An excellent restaurant and shop complete the scene. One other thing that many may not know. Outside the centre they have been working on dismantling the 9 hole golf course that was there. So what some may think? Well that is historic too. On that turf is where Danny Willet began his love affair with golf which proceeded to him winning the world's most prestigious golf title at The Masters in 2016. Maybe the local council will erect a plaque to that great achievement one day. I hope so.

Used to love visiting oriel môn as it's local. The gift shop side staff are lovely and helpful. I can't fault their welcoming and professional attitude.
However, the cafe staff, on this & a previous occasion, are rude. Firstly we were ignored by staff for several minutes, which meant we were in the way of people trying to pass.
We were curtly asked "have you booked". We hadn't, the website does not indicate bookings are required, nor are there any signs at the cafe to that effect. We were then told they were busy, which despite more tables empty than being used, we accept due to covid safety measures. We were offered a table, if we left after 40 minutes. But we decided not to accept as we didn't like the staff attitude or rude tone of voice.
We'd like to go again as we're hopeful management will address these issues and reinstate better customer service and communication.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Oriel Mon and ended up staying much longer than intended. There was a pleasing variety of things and as a result we discovered things that we might not have sought out. The display of three Welsh harps, for example, with recorded background music, was intriguing. The layout of the museum part was not always clear but the explanation of the shipwrecks on the Anglesey coast was engrossing and moving. Best of all were the artworks on display, by artists with local connections including Kyffin Williams and Charles Tunnicliffe. Entry is free; we gave a donation as we would have gladly paid to visit the exhibitions. The cafe was excellent as well. I hope that local people make the most of this wonderful facility. It should not be just for holidaymakers.

If visiting Anglesey you must visit Oriel Ynys Mon museum!!! Every year when we visit Anglesey, the museum visit is a must!! This year was no exception. When we arrived it was raining heavily! The warm reception we had from the ladies on reception was incredible! Nicola and a lady called Eleri helped us with our therapy dog and our surplus bags. These ladies made us forget the rain with their sunshine welcome. We booked a visit to the museum and lunch. Each time we have lunch here it always is first class food!!! Due to the bleak weather my husband and I opted for a cooked breakfast! Wow what a treat! It was the full works. The amazing chef was His who came out of the kitchen to ensure everyone was enjoying her home cooked food! Ps everyone was raving about her home cooked chips! Well done Oriel great art exhibitions.

This was a reminiscence visit with my (now much older children). This always used to be a favourite place to visit when on Anglesey and the weather not too great. The kids loved the displays and learned a lot about the island from seeing, touching and asking questions. Now, I cannot imagine what children would get from the experience. There is so much reading required its like wandering through a book with few illustrations. Also, I'm not sure as I walk through whether I am following a timeline or visiting pockets of information on local industry.
The display about the Royal Charter was familiar, but downsized sadly, and now it's next to a display of stone axes.
The mock up of Tunnicliffe's studio at Shorelands has now gone, along with a number of the paintings, they've made way for more information boards on copper mining or farming. It's informative but unimaginative.
I did visit the galleries. Kyffin Williams is always worth viewing for a local impression of the island. I also enjoyed the Lou Moore exhibition but again, so unimaginatively displayed. The hall is vast and white. The pictures hung around the four walls. Was the expectation of crowds of visitors requiring social space? Could the hall not be used for more as I have seen it in the past with sculptures for instance. I was the only visitor at the time in a large echo chamber with pictures of trees. Beautiful yes. Why not go along with the theme and mock up some trees in the hall to add to the experience? Boring really.

I guess that this may have been their busiest day of the summer. Storm Antonio was passing through and all we holidaymakers were looking for somewhere under cover. Consequently it was very busy and the queue for the coffee shop made us give it a miss. The galleries and museum were worth the visit though.
A selection of contemporary artists were exhibiting and there was a very interesting feature on the illustrator Charles Tunnicliffe who spent a significant part of his life living on Anglesey.
The museum exhibits were quite interesting although felt somewhat haphazardly displayed. Given the shape of the exhibition hall we ended up rather stumbling upon different subjects rather than being led to them and some of them felt like they could have been more developed. We were particularly intrigued by the story of a 19th century shipwreck off the Island and an ancient coffin containing the remains of an elderly woman.

The exhibition was fabulous along with the Christmas craft market and shop. The cafe was busy. The scones were very large, amazing but the pie was the worst I’ve every had. Overfilled with gravy, lid floating on top with just a few bits of sliced beef, you would have in a sandwich ,cut into oblongs, nothing else.I complained, the manager was very calm, did not refund, offered if wanted anything else, and they put in a pie what they got left over!no onions, chunks of beef just salty runny gravy, for £9.95, awful and not a homemade pie. Cakes looked nice, staff pleasant.

Sadly we were a week too late for the Kyffin Wlliams exhibition; the current exhibition didn't "float our boat". The museum is interesting and informative but felt very slightly "tired". Very good for school groups though. The staff were friendly, the gift shop is well worth a visit in its own right, and we were glad to see how Art is being encouraged on the island.
