The interior was nice with welsh wool blankets and handmade tables and benches. The outdoor kitchen was very basic and had no water. Compost loos were nearby and also used by the noisy childrenon the courses but quite adiquate. We had a few days in the spring which was quite hot so that the single layer yurt became over heated and stuffy very quickly, allthough the sides were lifted easily due to them not quite reaching the ground this would have been a problem in the wind or rain.
The ancient stove was inadiqate, smoking a lot and throwing out little heat, allthough the logs were complimentary.
Don't get unwell while staying here,we did and gave notice on Friday that we would leave in the morning two days early,we suggested a partial reimbersment and we're met with a definate NO WAY. The yurt was in no way glamorous camping and was overpriced for what you get.Denmark farm may be a charity but that should not be an excuse for the parsimonious attitude towards guests.
Good for a days visit as the site was nice.

We are sad to read your negative review of your stay at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre. Yes, you are correct the yurt is not the priority here. The wildlife and nature is our overriding priority. Our yurt and other accommodation is provided to enable people to get closer to nature and in turn provide essential income to manage the nature reserve. However we do pride ourselves on ensuring that our facilities are as sustainable and comfortable as they can be... wood provided from our own sustainably managed woodland and electricity from solar panels etc. Detailedinformation about the facilities was e-mailed to you in advance so we are sorry that some of the realities of sleeping in a yurt located on a simple campsite came as a surprise to you. With regards to receiving a reimbursement for your final night, as explained to you at the time and stated in the terms and conditions, this was not possible. It would have been impossible for us to re-let the yurt with only 24 hours notice and to reimburse you would involve a loss of valuable income to our charity. With hindsight (seeing how poorly you both were on arrival) it was clearly the wrong accommodation option for yourself and your son during that weekend. You would have been much more comfortable in our Eco Lodge, but that was your choice at the time. Yurt stays do not suit everyone and if glamorous is your priority unfortunately we don't do that here.

Stayed in the Yurt for a weekend after a busy week as a family of 4. Both our boys loved the fresh air, the rustic play area and the composting toilets! We all enjoyed cooking outdoors and having a break from technology.
Lovely comfy bed which was a bonus. If you are desperate for an en suite and a shower next door then you'll be disappointed, but for a break from the rest of the world it is amazing! Highly recommended.

The good points are that the lodges are lovely and well equipped and the farm itself is in a very rural quiet location ideal for peace and tranquility.
My family of five went with two other families to stay at Denmark Farm for a week this summer. On booking we were led to believe via the website/FB page that we would have use of the large outdoor pizza oven. We found out since staying here that you can't actually use it yourselves, the owner/proprietor has to work it and you can only benefit from this if the staff are available and for an extra cost.
We were also looking forward to our children (6 of them) being able to go to the Forest school activity day advertised however on arrival it transpired that the forest school day was fully booked. It would have been nice to advise us of the potential for it to be fully booked considering we were resident on the farm and had expressed an interest in all of our children attending.
On arrival we we asked to give our card details to secure £100 deposit. We were assured this was only a precautionary measure and that any damage/breakages are best paid for with cash to the office as this is much easier. On departure we did indeed go to the office with cash and we did break one bowl! However on returning home the same day we were advised via email that they had indeed taken the whole £100 amount from our bank account without and permission or discussion/agreement. When we questioned this we were told it was because one blanket had been left out overnight in a covered area and needed dry cleaning and because there were some black marks on the floor and a dent to one of the wooden floors as well as some marks to some of the upholstery. We asked for photographic evidence of this and we were provided with some photos, retrospectively! (which could have been taken at anytime). The blanket was left out overnight by our children, that was our only error. Although it was left in the covered 'welcome area' where our children played and it was not dirty in their nor did it get wet etc. However we would have happily paid for it to be dry cleaned if we had been asked!
As for the dent on the floor, it looked like it would have been made by something very heavy, such as a hammer or other heavy implement, and there is no way our children have done it nor have any of the adults? Their were several marks on the upholstery on our arrival and it is impossible to ascertain when being at home whether we were responsible for any of them? However with some discussion we could have come to a mutual agreement. There were also marks on the wooden floors already as this is what happens to a natural wood product that has chairs, tables and other equipment on! However we were blamed for causing some marks? We did not wear our shoes in the lodges as requested and if we did add to the marks already on the wooden floors this is a normal occurrence with having wooden floors, they are easily rubbed/sanded back.
What really annoyed and saddened us was the way this issue was dealt with. There was no prior discussion or negotiation the money was taken straight out of our bank with out any discussion. This is just plain RUDE! There was no way that we caused £100 worth of damage and the way this was dealt with has left a very bitter taste and tarnished what was a lovely break with our friends.
Also bear in mind that this farm is very rural and you have to drive at least an hour or so for places and activities suitable for children and families.

Thank you for reviewing your stay at Denmark Farm. We are very happy that you had a good holiday but sad that we had such difficulties at the end of your stay. We have learnt a lot from your visit and will take more care to ensure that we do have a similar unfortunate situation after guests depart in future. We will also adapt our information so it is clearer that in order to use the pizza oven it needs to be booked in advance. Unfortunately this is not something we can arrange at short notice as we are a charity with very limited staff and resources, as you know it was a very busy week when you are with us. Finally, I am sorry that you were disappointed that our Forest school session was fully booked when you arrived. If you remember we sent you an e-mail on the 10th July advising you to book asap as places are limited and often get booked up in advance - apologies if you misunderstood this.
Thank you once again.

A very beautiful location and the three inter-connecting apartments were absolutely perfect for the three families on our week long trip. Our children roamed free between apartments and outside, they loved every second. The stone house was an exciting find on our walks around the grounds.
With 8 children under 6 between us, we found the nearest beaches perfect entertainment. Little streams for building and channeling water. Further afield is Elan Valley Dams which is definitely worth the drive through the mountains.
Worth mentioning for other families with young children though - Make a note of any pre-existing marks or damage in your lodge as we lost our deposit because of marks to furniture which we didn't know we had made. Also, it's not massively clear on the website that the pizza oven isn't for use by visitors...and its best to get this booked in if you think you'd like to use it. We had planned on a pizza night but didn't manage to get one in during our 7 night stay.
Other than that we had a great time.

That's how my son described our weekend at Denmark Farm in October this year. He was describing how the woodland made him forget about the outside world, and I know what he meant, this is a peaceful and quiet spot, but also one full of fun. In the same woodland we enjoyed cooking burgers in the woodland camp kitchen, discovering the glass bottle and cob round house, and even caught a glimpse of bats at twilight.
The lodges are very comfortable, and high spec as well. The shower knocks spots off our own at home, and the beds and bedding are super comfy.
We felt very looked after, yet left in peace, by Mara. We had opted for a welcome pack of bread, eggs, bacon and sausage for our first mornings breakfast (yum!!), which was waiting for us, as was wood for the fire, and all the information we needed to enjoy our weekend retreat.
Would we go back? Oh yes! In fact, I had already been before and have already booked to go again with some friends in April.
Always a pleasure :)

If you want to see sustainable farming techniques first hand visit Denmark Farm. Beautifully located this area of land is well worth a visit, or perhaps you might consider one of their craft courses.

I was blown away by this place. 3 lodges set in a stunning nature reserve in the middle of the stunning welsh hills. So peaceful and beauitiful...no-one wanted to leave\!
We visited with our 5 children for 3 days but are going to rebook for a week for next year to give us a chance to spend more time exploring the 40 acres of the lovely site. There are so many hidden treasures around the whole place that we hardly got to explore properly! All of the children (2-10 years) were happier than ever running about the 40 acres.
The welcome from Mara was friendly and helpful. The lodges we spacious and immaculately clean. We stayed in robins perch and on the last morning whilst lying in bed looking out on the woods I swear an actual robin came and perched on the decking! I thought it was just a name for the lodge!
We had never been to Ceredigion before and only came after finding Denmark Farm online by chance. The whole area is unbelievably beautiful, the people extremely friendly and apparantly hardly anyone knows about it as it isnt over-run with tourists. Perfect if you love the beauty in our countryside but rent keen to share it with everybody else!
Thanks to everyone who looks after the nature reserve. Its an amazing, inspirational space and has given me tons of ideas for my own garden. See you again very soon.

We have just come back from a 7 night stay at Denmark Farm. We stayed as a family with our children 7 and 2 years and have had a wonderful time.
The Eco-lodge accommodation was absolute beautiful and spotlessly clean. Equipped with everything you could ever need whilst away including washing sponges and cloths to washing up liquid and tea, coffee, sugar and milk on arrival.
The Eco-lodge is set in the most amazing grounds with stunning views and is extremely peaceful and quiet. A little haven. The grounds provide extensive walks with hidden play areas for the children and lots of opportunities for adventures.
A huge thank you to Mara, who welcomed us on site and gave us lots of useful information about the local area and places to visit with our children. Whilst on site - our son took part in the 'Wild in the Woods' activity day and had lots of fun making his own lunch in the woods and carved his own butter knife. Fantastic!
In summary - a wonderful place to visit. A must!!!! 😃

Just got back yesterday from 9 nights at Denmark Farm and we are missing it already! We were a large group with 6 adults and 6 children aged 3 to 8 and we all loved it! The fabulous ŵeather showed the site at its best - we all enjoyed the walks, birdsong and amazing views, and the kids were able to roam freely with lots of places to explore and get wet and muddy!! The Easter egg making we did was enjoyed by all but the kids loved the Easter egg hunt the best....they had a ball! The accommodation itself was great, each bedroom having its own en suite making it easily adaptable for a large group (recommend the adults in the back rooms and kids at the front unless you want small people traipsing through your bedroom each morning to get their breakfast!). We had everything we needed to cook and live comfortably all week and the log burner was great in the evenings. The only thing we missed was a washing machine although the owners have plans to install one his summer I gather. Mara the manager was very helpful and made us feel really welcome and part of their local community. We'd definitely to back there if we were closer!
