This is an excellent place to visit. As my wife is learning the art of quilting we took the opportunity to travel to Lampeter despite the long drive. It was well worth the trip. As it was our first visit we were treated to a guided tour by Jen Jones whose passion for Welsh quilts is self evident. The exhibition space is divided up into several rooms over two floors. The quilts are simply displayed with excellent notes on separate sheets. We have been to several exhibitions in both large and small buildings such as the NEC and the Malvern show but none are were effective , imho , in showing the beauty of the quilts as the displays at this centre. It was also very refreshing to see bed quilts actually shown on beds! It provides a great context. In addition to the main quilts there was a lovely display of work by Viviene Finch showing miniature cot quilts. The continuous loop video about the collection and the making of a felt quilt lasted an hour and was very informative. It was good to see plenty of seating in the rooms to allow deeper contemplation!. Finally there is a great shop with high quality gifts , books and craft kits.
I would suggest you allow at least two and ideally three hours to fully appreciate the displays. It is possible to leave and return to the centre having refreshed one’s self at one of the many tea rooms , cafes and restaurants along the high street.
All in all a great and enjoyable day out that we will be repeating later in the year as the exhibitions change.

This little gem is hidden away in a beautiful old town hall in the quaint village of Lampeter, which also houses a lovely little cafe. I was lucky enough to attend with the owner of Calico Kate, the amazing fabric shop just along from the museum.
Make no mistake this exhibition is not just for quilters, especially as they house smaller exhibits of other crafts such as paintings from local artists.
The main quilt collection itself has been beautifully curated with information on each piece taking you through the story of the quilt. There is also currently a second exhibit from Sandy Lush displaying her breathtaking wholecloth creations.
If your knowledge of the hand quilting process is lacking, do not concern yourself because as you wend your way through the walls covered in exquisite hanging pieces and admire the bed sets with quilts of all colours and designs draped over them, you can be in no doubt that you are experiencing a true piece of Welsh heritage. I defy anyone not to stand in front of some of these creations and not to be taken aback by the sheer accuracy and quality of the designs, especially knowing that this had been completed painstakingly by hand.
On our visit we broke up the session by having some lunch in the cafe before returning to listen to the video presentation on the centre, quilts and other exhibits. We were then able to watch some nice design software to show how the wholecloth pieces had been designed by Sandy Lush before our visit was done.
There is a little shop at the front, run by volunteers, where there are many blankets, quilt sets and other small curiosities to remind yourself of the visit and often Jen Jones herself, who owns many of the quilts, can be found around the Centre and was happy to answer our questions.
So whether you are a quilter or not a visit to the Welsh Quilt Centre is a must to not only appreciate some true Welsh craft but also to understand a very important part of Welsh heritage.

Visited Thursday 12th August as it was open it has such an array of beautiful Welsh blankets and some quilted items too.
The detail within the pieces on display are beautiful to see and as for the 2 ladies within the shop. So helpful and lovely to speak to.
I did come away with a lovely large blanket, which will always remind me of our holiday to Wales.
Worth a visit

My wife and I were invited to a preview of the exhibition 'Ar Hyd y Nos' (All through the Night) which ran at the centre between 10 May and 2 July 2016. We were warmly welcomed in their well-stocked Gallery Shop where we browsed through their impressive range of books, jewellery and greeting cards as well as marvelling at their displays of both new and vintage textiles and of course their fascinating collection of Welsh quilts. We were directed through to Gallery 3 where the preview was being held and were met by helpful and knowledgeable staff, keen to share with us their enthusiasm for their latest exhibition. So with our complimentary glasses of wine and soft drink safely in our hands, we viewed the intricate, clever and beautifully designed art works by various members of 02 Textiles. This group of 13 textile artists, formed in Essex in 2002, are passionate about the use of embroidery and textile as an art form and regularly exhibit their work. Their aim is to bring colour and fun into the world of textile art and they certainly achieved that with their latest exhibition. They used the exhibition's night time theme to great effect and I enjoyed watching some startled foxes, moon gazing hares, dreaming children and sleeping tramps displayed on the gallery walls! Thank you to the artists Chris Bojan, Chris Bonnett, Eileen Beales, Ann Brown, Wendy Greene, Karen Ives, Rita Johnson, Tabatha Mitchel-Simons, Liz Nicholls, Dot Reed and Elizabeth Taylor for turning their ideas and artistic skills into such diverse art works. Thank you also to the Welsh Quilt Centre for inviting us to the preview and for bringing such a wonderful exhibition to Ceredigion.

This is not a review about the Exhibition itself as unfortunately the staff (or rather one particular person) totally put us off. The shop assistants were too busy talking to notice our presence as we browsed in the shop until we had wandered into the back room. This brought an immediate reaction from one assistant who asked if we were intending to go upstairs to the exhibition and if so, pointed out bluntly that be a charge. Her brusque manner bordered on rudeness and we couldn't leave the shop fast enough. Such a shame as we were so looking forward to the visit based on all the five star reviews this exhibition has received.

Great place, but the staff let you down, we paid 6 pound each to go in ( which we had no problem with ) until a very rude lady shouted and continued to shout at my mother like she was a child as she went to touch one of the blankets, ( human nature to want to feel) this put me off completely and upset me and my parents, so we didn't stay long and spent our money elsewhere ( nice welsh blanket place in tregaron) they literally just took our money and we never had any briefing at the beginning about not touching. All in all wouldn't go back or spend my money there down to this one member of staff who clearly thought she was something special ..

Loved this place so a couple of years ago that we came back and brought a friend - only to find out that it's closing down at the end of the year due to lack of funds. This is an important collection which so far has been pretty much the work of one individual, and it should have a permanent home in Wales.

Shop selling vintage Welsh blankets, quilts and all sorts of tasteful artefacts.
Upstairs there is a constantly changing exhibition of quilts/blankets.
If you are in the area it is well worth a visit.
They also have a shop a few miles away with even more beautiful vintage quilts/blankets/bedding etc.
Absolutely wonderful.

I was hoping to see the obnoxious woman but no sign. But then I didn't try to touch the quilts. But it would have been nice to have been given gloves as any sewer wants to look at the back of things.
The exhibition was wonderful and we were lucky to catch it as they were planning to dismantle it as it had finished. Very good narrative about the quilts on display and other exhibits. I'm looking forward to the next exhibition which will apparently focus more on the history.
