My friends and I spent 2 days with Dan and his lovely dog Moose over the summer. We booked a day each of foraging and bushcraft, both of which were amazing. The days were tailored to what we wanted and we learnt so much while exploring beautiful places in Pembrokeshire. We all felt genuinely welcomed by Dan, and many weeks later we are still regularly reminiscing and getting excited being able to apply what we have learnt. I highly recommend the experiences that Black Rock Outdoor Company can offer, and look forward to another visit next year.

I did the one day foraging experience followed by bushcraft course a couple days later with friends.
The foraging experience was excellent! Dan was really knowledgeable and friendly taking the time to explain things clearly and I’m more than enough depth. My favourite plant was Rib wort because of all the applications it has and now all I’m doing when walking is looking to the side of the path at all the different plants!
The bushcraft day was beyond expectations and we had a great full day getting hands on building a shelter, fire starting and learning knife/axe skills as well as getting lots of information from Dan about water collection. We finished the day with making some garlic bread made from wild garlic and cooked over the fire we made!
Would definitely recommend and will be going doing it again next time in Pembrokeshire!

My mum and I had the best day with Dan and his gorgeous dog in June.
We are still talking about it now, and it was honestly one of the best things I have ever done. We learnt so much and he was very knowledgeable and informative.
The food cooked on the beach that we foraged was out of this world!! I highly recommend

If we could give Black Rock Outdoor Company and Dan a bazillion stars, we would! We went with Dan for rock pooling in 2022 and we were so impressed that we were sure to book ahead for the summer of 2023 at which point we did the bush craft experience and foraging over two days. These are special days for our family whilst on vacation from Dubai.
We have small children who range in personalities from inquisitive, talkative, boisterous to quiet and pensive: so we can definitely say that Dan is excellent with all children. I can also say that adults definitely enjoy days with Black Rock Outdoor Company too. You just can’t help but feel enthusiastic about your surroundings when you’re learning with Dan.
His knowledge is beyond extensive and he will share facts about the natural world that you will not have known before!
We are not affiliated, we just absolutely love outdoor activities with Dan. Just send him a message and tell him what your requirements are and he will recommend what’s best. Book ahead, he’s understandably very busy.

I have been on Dan's hedgerow and coastal foraging courses - and both were fabulous and real eye-openers! He's a wonderful guide - hugely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and inspiring - and in addition to learning loads, both days were such fun too. I can't decide whether to do his mushroom or seaweed foraging course next...and I'll probably end up doing them both!

We had a fantastic day exploring rock pools and collecting edible wild plants with Dan. He's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about outdoor education but also very mindful of sustainability issues which really impressed us. At the end of the tour we enjoyed a meal prepared with the food we collected, both the salad and seafood were very tasty. Would definitely recommend!

Dan was fantastic. Totally knowledgeable and passionate about what he does and loves nature. Can't praise him enough. We did the Rockpool and Bushcraft sessions as two families. A wonderful bonding experience, mixture of giving us hands on experience and interesting facts. Learn exciting new things and enjoy the experience!

A great 2hrs exploring the rockpools under Dan’s expert guidance. He’s like an encyclopaedia - so much knowledge shared with everyone, really fascinating and I learned so much from the session. Would thoroughly recommend. Thanks Dan!

We booked Dan to take our family including three young children out for a Rockpool Safari. We aren’t that experienced in outdoor activities as a family and so it was something we researched beforehand. Dan has great reviews and so we went for it with a booking. As with anything, you just never know until you get there. Dan was on time and responsive and helpful, and immediately engaged the children with a “competition”. They were hooked and intently listened to everything he had to say about our surroundings. Pendine Beach is gorgeous and Dan is so incredibly knowledgeable! He clearly has a passion for what he does, and he is patient, fun and has his eyes on the safety of all in the group. We are so thankful to have found Dan to help us get out and about, and we will definitely be booking again for our next West Wales vacation. Once you meet Dan, you will easily see that he could talk about nature, wildlife and creatures for days on end. If you love the outdoors, hire this lovely young man to have a fun day exploring!
