About
One of the most magnificent of Britain's castles is the "birth place of the Tudor Dynasty." You can climb the 80ft Great Keep, descend into a pre-historic cave and look down into a prisoner in a medieval dungeon. There is also a cafe and gift shop. During school holidays there are falconry displays, historic re-enactments and family entertainment. The main exhibition rooms display models and weaponry as well as telling the story of the history of the castle. You can also visit the room that King Henry VII the founder of the Tudor Dynasty was born.

    A fabulous day out.
We had the most amazing animated history lesson from Howard. What an extraordinary guide oozing passion! Leave yourself time for self exploration after the guide in the many towers and labyrinth of corridors and rooms. Finally fabulous food and coffee at the cafe. All the staff we met from the reception to the cafe were extremely helpful and friendly. We’ll done! Highly recommended!

Guided tour (free) is a must and don’t miss the fab cafe too
Absolutely awesome trip - even the very cold weather didn’t daunt us, such was the amazing story telling from Howard our guide on one of the free guided tours of the castle. We learnt more about British history than most of our time at school! But in a very engaging and authentic way from a guide who truly loved his job. We also had the pleasure of sampling the food and service at the castle cafe - outstanding on both counts.

    a thousand years of history
Nearby parking, free guided tours included in the reasonable entry fee, you don't need to buy a guide book to enjoy this castle. If you prefer to make your own way around the castle there is plenty of information available. The Tudor connection is interesting. There is something here for all age groups too. There is a modern cafe with reasonable prices and super loos. Well worth a visit .

    Pembroke castle
Easy parking in Pembroke, the castle visit was a great afternoon. Free guided tour well worth doing, our guide Gareth was interesting and engaging, his love of history was infectious! Nice tea room and clean toilets! There was a medieval re-enactment show the day we went which added to the atmosphere. Dog friendly too.

    Pembroke castle cannot be missed
I just finished a two hour tour with David at the helm and I’ve never met a human being who remembered more information with no notes of any kind. He walked us through a 600 year history of the castle and the ups and the downs of everyone who occupied it. A truly remarkable historical experience that is not only a great value from across perspective but also Time really well spent with beautifully kept grounds and a real trip down History lane for people who know everything or people who know nothing. Cant recommended strongly enough and again David is a robot.remarkable man.

    Storming the castle
Our visit to Pembroke Castle was great we went as a family 2adults 1 child of 10 and 1 of 7. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The views were amazing. Our 2 boys also joined the Knights school that the Merrymakers Theatre Company ran. Well it was brilliant it was like walking onto a Horrible Histories set they were all fantastic and very enthusiastic and so patient with the children (and adults!) We were able to buy some audio CDs of their presentations that they were selling at the end of the 45 minute stint we had all 3 and they definitely earned the £27 (£9 each) that ee CV paid. They brought the history alive for the children and all historical castles and buildings should use them they were amazing!

    Lovely day
Very inspiring castle. The amateur dramatics were great and really got the kids involved. Awesome views and a few chambers were closed but plenty to see. The smell in the toilets was in keeping with the dark ages was my only critique. Still top marks though. Lovely afternoon.

    Superb day, magical tour.
Mind blowing day of history at the castle, the pinnacle of which was our hour with tour guide and history teacher Gareth. I had visited Pembroke as a child but had no idea how pivotal it was in both Welsh and British history. Our family was all hooked - and adults and kids on the tour alike were hanging off his every word. The castle itself is a really special place, but made more magical by the insight from the tour, so don’t miss that. Also make sure you visit the underground cavern. Good cafe onsite too - lots of gluten free options.

Had a fantastic FREE, detailed tour of the castle by our guide John. It added real depth and gave a lot of life to the visit.

Excellent. We arrived in time for a free tour which was very good. The tour guide spoke many languages and was able to explain parts of the tour in French to a family. Would recommend a visit and tour anytime of year.

I have been to around a hundred castles around the UK, and Pembroke ranks among the best. The tour guide Gareth (A retired history teacher) was absolutely superb, and his enthusiasm shone through. At the end, I took the opportunity to thank him personally. If you are physically able, make the effort to go up the narrow spiral staircase to the top of the keep, the views are amazing, likewise down the other staircase to the Wogan keep, a huge underground cavern, There is a decent cafe, where you can have a cake and a brew but it could do with being a bit bigger, not that many tables, I can imagine with the Summer crowds you would have to eat outside on the benches, not ideal in heavy rain.Overall, a great day out....Thanks Gareth.

This Castle is full of history, we went as a family with a 3 year old and 6 year old and our dog. The Castle grounds are mostly all accessible apart from the tower which dogs can't access. Highly recommend doing the tour which was free, our tour guide David was full of information, and we learnt so much, he made sure it was relatable for the children as well. We will definitely be going back.

Very good place to visit. Spent around 2 hours wandering the Castle, listening to the audio in some of the castle rooms and reading about the history. There is a guided tour twice a day if this is something you would like. We just did our own thing. A very well stocked cafe offering teas, coffees, snacks and light lunch. Clean toilets and a lovely little gift shop on the way out. We enjoyed our visit and so did our 6yr old boy.

On a rather boring, cloudy Sunday morning, John, the tour guide brought Pembroke castle to life.

What an absolute hero, genuinely if you go you have to do the guided tour. John was wonderful and couldn’t thank him enough!

If you see this John, all the best! I’ll be buying one of your books!
