Really enjoyed visiting. We walked from town through the gorgeous grounds to the castle. Gardens are stunning, even in winter.

Had a wonderful day at Powis Castle. It’s run by the national trust and currently has a Clive of India based exhibition at the moment. The Castle is superb. Well restored and some lovely pieces of classic furniture, pictures and statues mixed with a 40’s/50’s based living quarters. The volunteers are very friendly and extremely knowledgeable and will either let you just bimble around unaided or will give the full low down on each room, the people and history. The Cadtle was lived in up until the early 50’s when the the Lord passed away leaving the Castle to the Trust for safe keeping as both his sons had died during the War.If you’re in the Powis area or are passing Welshpool it’s worth calling in. The grounds are lovely and the woodland walk is beautiful with tons of wildlife.

Staying in Welshpool we wanted to visit the castle and grounds. We had heard that the gardens and views were stunning. They certainly were. Lots of great ideas for own garden as well. The castle is open and Covid safe. The volunteers in the castle were very helpful and gave us a potted history of the castle and the cafe in the castle was good. Again the staff were really friendly.

We booked our slot between 2.30 and 3.00, we had attended a funeral earlier in the morning this being my grandad- gamekeeper of Powis castle and gardens may I add. We were a little late arriving at around 3.05, we had our tickets ready for the lady to huff and puff telling us she was about to lock the garden gate and we should of arrived at 3.00. After a bit of a drive of course we needed a toilet stop and to buy a drink from the cafe. As we were about to walk in to the gardens she locked the gate, I explained we just needed a drink and a toilet and she pretty much told us to hurry up. THEN rushing my father who is 79 years of age down a slope and steep steps before she locked the gates, he then did get a little sharp telling her his age and not to rush him for her to reply “I know where you are coming from” and he replied “no you don’t you are a lot younger than me”. I would also like to add my father was in charge of the greenhouses and was a gardener here about 35 years ago. THIS WOMEN definitely needs some training in customer service! Also two of us are national trust members so we paid for 1 extra ticket to see the majority of the gardens cornered off so to charge £8 to see a couple of sections is utterly ridiculous. I would be most grateful if the person in charge can get back to me.
