We visited this National Trust Property on a wet and windy day. Fortunately the rain stopped for a short while whilst we walked the gardens which are exceptional. The main Castle was very interesting as was the Clive of India museum. Would recommend visiting out of peak time as I am sure it would be extremely busy in high season.

We were staying in Telford for a couple of days in mid September, and decided to do the short drive to Welshpool to visit Powis Castle. The gardens were absolutely beautiful. The castle was also fascinating and also the story of Clive and his family. The gardens which were started in the late 17th century and early 18th century are... More

Indoors is a typical stuffy NT property, though there some good guides who are not too overbearing. Liked The Trench, mockup of living quarters in WWI trenches. Clive Museum rather disappointing as had expected much better Mughal miniatures. Stunning inlaid dressing table. Terraced gardens are very lovely, with view of hills.

The views from the caste are great but I'd say this is now more of a stately home than a castle. Since I visited in winter the entry was half price and we were warned at the time that some of the artifacts would be hidden for restoration purposes. I'd say it was more than some. And 2 cannons were... More

We went on a Sunday in early February. From the outside the house is impressive and we were told by the last at the entrance that "some" of the items were covered up as it was the winter season (apparently they didn't used to open in the winter months but do now). It wasn't "some", it was "most" and some... More

Powis Castle has something for everyone - fascinating castle interior with changing decorations eg Christmas or Edwardian theme; stunning gardens with a maze cut into the lawn in summer; great cafes - one in the garden; lovely shops including a second hand book shop. Deer often to be seen in the park.... all in all a delight to visit, whatever... More

Really brilliant place to visit. The castle has imposing views and the gardens are a must see. History of the castle is fascinating. The cafe is good too.

This is an extraordinary castle - built by a royal welsh dynasty in the 13th century it's magnificently siited with long views over the lush welsh countryside within walking distance of Welshpool. It has repeatedly been renovated over the centuries and one can see why. The deer park is full of deer, the gardens are superlative with contrasting formal and... More
