Such a great place for kids
Apr 2017 • Family
My kids have made the most amazing things here and I still have them in my garden. Whether they are totem poles, paintings or sketches, I love the freedom that the people are given to explore their creativity.
The staff are lovely and often volunteers. They are helpful and keep up the supplies to the every creatively hungry kids over the school holidays.
It's worthwhile booking in advance as the classes are popular.
Parents beware: your house may fill out with your child's creations and you know it's a crime to throw out their artwork. LOL.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking.

holiday activities
Jan 2018
The Art House has a great holiday program. All types of learning activities such as pottery, drawing, ceramics, just to name a few. It is also a gallery with lots of local artists displaying their artwork which is for sale to the public. Worth a call in on your travels. Check open dates and times as they vary.

Due to a Complete Lack of Respect Shown by the Managers & Owners, No Longer Willing to Recommend.

As occurs annually the Anglesea Art House holds the Kids Art Bash during the January school holiday period. Dates are provided via their website some months in advance which we used to think was a great idea as it helped families such as ours to plan which day to visit.

With the website clearly stating that the Art Bash was going to run from "Monday 2nd January 2017 until Saturday 28th January 2017" with hours of operation from 10.00am to 4.00pm we planned weeks in advance to attend on the Thursday 26th January 2017.

[ We all pile into the car and head off to Anglesea...everyone is excited as this is an annual family event for us now....]

Arriving at the Art House our hearts sink when we notice that the car park is empty & the entry gate is locked. My husband walks over to try the door hoping beyond hope that the situation wasn't what it looked like.

Unfortunately the sign stuck to the door says it all. Starring in utter disbelief he reads that basically they had decided to finish the Kids Art Bash early and that the last day had been on the Wednesday 25th January 2017.

We called the phone number provided, which as usual went direct to a message bank. Needless to say we have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply.

No consideration for the public appears to have been shown & even as of the 28th January 2017 their website continued to invite the public to "just turn up and start creating".

[ Pretty poor performance all around..]
As mentioned a group of us being family & friends organise our schedules every year to attend this event. Being a 200 kilometre round trip we certainly didn't appreciate the lack of respect shown by their failure to advise the public of their decision to finish early.

Whilst we empathise that unforeseen circumstances can arise, the problem was that there should have been in the very least an amendment made to the website so people didn't waste valuable time & petrol money being able to modify their holiday plans accordingly.

For years we have been enthusiastic supporters of the Anglesea Art House however as a result of this incredibly disappointing experience we no longer wish to provide our recommendation.

Thank you for reading our review, It is regrettable that we must inform our fellow travellers as to the change to our feedback.

The Anglesea Art House is such wonderful fun that as soon as Summer School Holidays approach my family starts looking forward to our yearly visit to Anglesea for the "Kids Art Bash".

It is at this time that the Art House open their doors to the General Public & for very reasonable costs you can spend just an hour or two or even the whole day releasing your inner artist.

Whilst the "Kids Art Bash" itself operates for only a limited period during the school holidays in January, there is actually an extensive list of workshops & various art classes that continue to operate all year around & these are overseen by a troupe of very dedicated volunteers.
These friendly helpers also run the Art Bash & some of them specialise in the various mediums on offer & it has been our experience on each occasion that these volunteers were more than happy to share their knowledge with us.

An array of activities are available to choose from such as creating your own Mosaic on a tile, pot or paver & decorating your own cup, bowl or plate. You can also partake in painting on either a canvas or a plaster mould. During this annual visit however I was especially looking forward to an activity known as "Jelly Printing" that we had heard they were planning on showing.

One of the volunteers was an expert in the printing process and it was a joy to be able to benefit from her knowledge and to accept useful tips as I experienced this art medium for myself. All of the jelly moulds were hand made from natural products and with this being a very therapeutic & tactile exercise I highly recommend trying it for yourself.

My wife purchased a bowl for a few dollars & using stencils & free-hand produced a very colourful centrepiece whilst my son used some wooden figurines of people & a dog to create an awesome mobile to hang over his bed.

At the Anglesea Art House the atmosphere is very cheerful & most welcoming. There is so much fun to be had & the only difficulty is trying to decide what to do first. The last time I ended up painting a canvas & printing numerous pictures with jelly.

So mark a circle on your calendar for when the next Summer School Holidays roll around & regardless as to whether you are single, a couple or a family the size of the Partridges head down to the Kids Art Bash, let your imagination go and allow your creativity run free.

Went for the Kids - Stayed for Me!
Jan 2016 • Family
We visited during our summer holiday in Anglesea. The kids had a wonderful time (painting canvases, painting plates, making dream catchers and drawing). The problem was me: I got stuck into painting a plate and accidentally spent hours there! I'm looking forward to returning next year to try a mosaic (and I suppose I'll let the kids join me - they had fun too!).
Aside from the plethora of options for activities, there's art available to purchase and a fair range of crafts too.

Art for the family
Nov 2015 • Solo
Run by volunteers (very friendly locals) the art house has local art and craft for sale, the quality varies, but that is one of its purposes, to show case local talent in all its forms and support the community. There are some bargains to be had eg the pot holder, cards and unframed works. During summer holidays they run all day painting and mosaic classes for young ones, older ones are welcome to. Parents need to stay with children but the minimal fee is worth it and it makes a change from going to the beach all day. Paint on paper, pottery, poles for hours and go home with a treasure. Check out the fish on outside wall, a 2006 Melbourne commonwealth games momento. The Art House Exhibition during the long weekend in June is also worth a visit.

Staff and activities fantastic
Jan 2015 • Family
What a lovely bunch of volunteers who helped assist our group of seven young children to be thoroughly engaged for a couple of hours. There was a very good array of media for painting or mosaic all of which were reasonably priced. Kids had a ball.

Anglesea Art House: Highly Recommended! An Absolutely Brilliant Experience for All Ages. Enjoy!!
Jan 2015 • Family
My husband & I are pleased to be able to provide you with this review of the Anglesea Art House which is a community based venue located in Anglesea, Victoria. The facility is available to artists & craft people on a member & non member basis. Visitors & the general public are also
invited to attend this fantastic venue to view the wonderful artwork on display & even make a purchase or two!

[ *** Kids School Holiday Programmes ***] - My husband & I were thrilled to discover that each January the Anglesea Art House holds what is called "the Kids Art Bash". Children must be accompanied by an adult. Entry is free & there is a huge selection of activities to choose from.

These include, painting on canvas & paper, wooden shapes such as animals, letters & flowers to paint, tiled mosaics that you get to create from scratch, cups / plates & bowls that you can decorate & paint as well as ceramics, placemats & picture frames.

There is a reasonable cost for these activities which start from $5.00 & increases dependent upon what you choose to create. What you are actually paying for is only the item you select to decorate. Everything else is included for free.
= ** For example, my husband chose a planter to make a mosaic on. He paid $20.00 for the terra-cotta pot & everything else was included in that price. An endless & unlimited about of tiles he was allowed to break & take, as much of the glue that was needed they also supplied & they also grout the tiles for you free of charge.
= You get to stay there as long as you need to & the lovely people whom run the Kids Bash - all whom are volunteers mind you - they do not rush you at all. If you don't finish your creation in one visit they will hold it there for you for a reasonable period until you can return & finish it.
I selected a long tile about 30cm in length which I turned into a mosaic. Again I was allowed to use as much of the available materials as I required & was charged only $14.00.

Considering that for these highly reasonable prices you will have a complete day of fun & creativity, get to make a unique art piece for yourself or a loved one that you are able to keep, meet some really helpful & lovely people whom operate the programme & can spend time enjoying your proximity to the Great Ocean Road - a visit to this absolutely incredible venue is a must !!

My husband & I live in Melbourne & travel to Anglesea especially for the School Programme each January. As to the remainder of the year the Art House continues with many other fantastic things to do, the details of which we have included below for your convenience.

[Membership] - For the cost of what appears to be a very reasonable Annual Fee people can choose to become a Member which entitles you to access the various tools & equipment such as pottery & glass kilns, printing machine & a matt cutter.
= In addition they advertise that studio space is made available on a daily basis where Members can work on their chosen art form as well as having the ability to display their products & sell them if they so choose. The Art House website has an extensive list of what else Members are entitled to.

[General Public] - This friendly community environment also seems to extend to the General Public & the Art House advertises that they operate regular weekly classes in areas such as Watercolours, Pottery, Mosaic, Painting & Life Drawing. A programme of weekend workshops also seems to run & this is indicated to include visits by a variety of prominent artists. Again their website contains details as to the prices charged to attend one of the many classes.

[*** Summary ***] -Whether you live locally & get to attend weekly art classes, or if you live in Melbourne & can only make it for a day, the Anglesea Art House is wonderful. Prices, when applicable are extremely reasonable & the selected of crafts is huge.

It is suggested that you may wish to make a quick check of the hours of operation with a view to maximising your time, as well as to ensure that the activity you seek is available on the day you have selected.

Thank you for reading this review, we hope that it has been beneficial.
