Attended a tour at the asylum. The guide was well informed and professional. The weather was cool but we dressed for the cool night and being cool it added to the experience. Loved the experience and recommend to anyone thinking about going.

Did the night ghost tour and it was a bit of fun. Creepy place, toured with a touch of theatre from the knowledgeable guide. Fantastic piece of regional Australia history and definitely worth a visit. It’s not a theme park so don’t be expecting plastic...More

It's fair to say that it would not have been good to have been locked up in an Asylum, especially if you weren't crazy which it seems a lot of patients weren't. The solitary confinement rooms were simply barbaric. The place evoked feelings which everyone...More

Kind of scary how things worked in the "good ole days" - so glad I wasn't alive then and suffering from a mental illness, depression or other condition. Beautiful and extensive site sadly and slowly deteriorating in places.

How they can charge $38 for this rubbish I don’t know! We were not told to wear warm clothes or flat shoes. The guide was not at all appealing.

So although im very much a sceptic when it comes to the paranormal, I do love touring old asylums and goals to learn about the history. Our guide was amazing and very informative. We definetely will be back again.

This area is worth a visit to see how people with mental health issues used to be housed. the buildings are surrounded by beautiful mature trees and it's a high point of Beechworth

We did the Ghost Tour - it's well guided, but this old cynic couldn't raise a shiver or a look over the shoulder despite the best efforts of the guide. Interesting to see the odd things one could be locked up for 'back then'.

Its an erie place with so much history covered over/up. The thousands of poor souls that passed through ,although most died there ....over 6000. Like the young girl of 6 who was sent there and “lived “ there for 60 more years never seeing the...More

The tour is worth it to get the understanding of the working of the Asylum and where it is today. It's a shame how much has been destroyed by renovations or lack of maintenance, although the current owners do seem keen to return it to...More
