Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Mt Beauty bike trails... At the top end of the town is the national downhill mountain bike course which has trails to test anyone. And with the access trails it means that even those of us who dont want to rush to the bottom of the hill at top speed can have a great afternoon out. For those who may just want a pleasant, quiet ride in the sun there is plenty of option too, like the sealed bike path that goes all the way around Mt Beauty's lake and links up with shady bike trails through the forest and along the ridges. Mt Beauty, a terrific bike rdiers destination.

Also known as the Big Hill trail complex this starts just outside the town heading towards Falls Creek. Not a purpose built MTB complex, rather a series of tracks that have been developed and morphed over time by a bunch of dedicated local MTB riders. Something for every skill level, from the 'easy' rated "Up" track up to some suicidal double black diamond stuff for the crazy blokes. If anything I would say the ratings, particularly for the 'easier' rides under sell how hard they are in reality. A must do stop off if you are in to X-country or really rough down hill MTB

We only had one day to ride the Big Hill MTB tracks at Mount Beauty so base don reviews we read, we decided to ride Survey Track. I couldn't agree more. Survey track is an amazing track, narrow trails, steep climbs and beautiful views. We went up twice, first time coming down on Track #01, but when we finished, we decided to ride up Survey track again for us to come back down on it. The blue trails can be a little tricky so we stuck to the green trails only.
Make sure you stop by the information centre to get a map. There are a lot of trails and forks in the mtb park and we had to stop and review our maps every 5 minutes simply because there was a fork int he trails every few minutes.

Mount Beauty is a world class mountain biking base. Take it from someone who has mountain biked on four continents. If you are an Australian mountain biker you owe it to yourself to give this location a good work over before you die or at least before you hang up your biking shoes. There is a single track park trail head at Mount Beauty itself, two more within 30 kilometres and a smorgasbord of extensive off-road touring routes into the Alpine National Park. The local mountain bike park is on the slopes of Mt Beauty hill itself conveniently only a few hundred metres from the main shopping centre and accommodation choices. There are over 40 kilometres of natural single track in the Big Hill Mount Beauty mountain bike park. The cross country trails tend to be tight, encouraging concentration with some sharp steep corners, but no scary drop offs or man made rock gardens. Being a cross country rider I cannot speak to the down hill tracks but I know they have a high reputation. The biggest downside to Mount Beauty Mountain Bike Park is too many tracks, too many choices, every couple of hundred metres a new junction a new choice left or right. In my opinion you need to allow at least three days sussing out all the tracks and confirming your favourite routes. Only 30km away at Falls Creek they are building a new mountain bike park. I prefer Mount Beauty as a base, for both mountain biking and road cycling but in the peak of summer Falls Creek is a lot cooler during the heat of the day. A good strategy on very hot days is to bike Mount Beauty in the morning and after lunch head up the Bogong High Plains Road where it can be 15 degrees cooler to bike the trails at Falls Creek or some leisurely rides out on the Bogong High Plains. The Bogong High Plains offers some of the best back country single track and fire trail routes in Australia. Mount Beauty is a great base to access those rides picking your days to go high or stay low. The mountain bike trails at Bright are also only 30km from Mount Beauty and are a good choice to stop off at on your last day if heading back to Melbourne. If you have already done Bright or are heading in the other direction then a stop off at the trails at Yackandah or Beechworth are good alternatives. Mount Beauty is a great base for a weekend of biking but it deserves more. If you have got some holidays due but do not want to splash too much cash, get half a dozen friends together and rent a house in Mount Beauty for 7 to 9 days for a fantastic mountain biking holiday. You could even invite some road cycling friends along as part of your group as the alpine climbs from Mount Beauty are classic for road cyclists. Alternatively invite a couple of friends with their girlfriends or partners. If they are not cyclists there are plenty of walks, golf course, fishing, wineries and historical towns to keep them occupied while you bike.

A bit tough for beginners on the way up, but the downhill loop makes the whole experience totally worth it! A must-try for any mountain biker!

Mount Beauty, this must be one of the very best bike destinations in Victoria. With the downhill bike park offing all levels of downhill mountain bike trails and the huge number of road bike touring options available here abouts. This combined with bike friendly accommodation and cafes, the fresh mountain air and what have to be the best mountain views

If you want to ride some trail with character this is the place to come. Virtually no machine built stuff here, just decades old, hand hewn mtb goodness carved out of the hill side. The signage is a bit wanting, so if you can find a local to show you around the myriad of track you will be assured of a great day on a bike. Drop into the brewery afterward for a refreshing ale or 2 to top off the experiance.

We hiked the Survey and Pole track with a side track to Mermaid pool. The Survey trail is more remote and off to the side of the 'Big Hill' and is a narrow and more technical trail for MTB but is a great hiking trail. The Pole track is part of the'Big Hill' tracks and is a challenge on descents. The trail was about a 3.5 hour loop by foot from the car park of the Big Hill. Great views and scenery throughout the trail.
