For someone visiting from the UK, and has a second home in France, I'm used to wine tasting at French vineyards. However, being asked to pay $15 each to sample a mouthful of 5 wines is a new one and one failed to understand.

Yes, it was nice surroundings for the tastings but wine tasting shouldn't be costing you the visitor. We did buy a bottle but you do feel that talking a more European approach would drive up numbers and also sales.

Beautiful bush setting with great food and service. Outside dining set amongst a grove of Apple Gums and grapevines surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Only little criticism is the wines are on the high priced side.
Wines were good but…

Came here to have our lunch at this winery.. surprisingly good food with wine pairing too. 5 course lunch with very creative way to have Asian spices blended into the dish. Especially with Thai curry flavour fish dish is very refreshing. The lamb cooked with rosemary and molasses spice served in Chinese traditional claypot is perfectly cooked! Love the tenderness of the meat and the flavourful meat. The bbq chicken wing with emphasis of Thai flavour! .. The porridge is likely bland but is fulfilling and beautifully decorated like sitting eggs on a bird nest! Found this winery to let my dears experience the wine tasting. Ending up a great food with decent wine pairing lunch.. lots of wines to taste and enjoy our 3 hours. Great service and great wine tasting room too!

We booked a table for two for lunch to enjoy the signature $140 pp Chefs menu. The booking was made a week and half in advanced and we added a message to notify the kitchen of an intolerance to Canola oil. Rather than the usual, no problem thanks for letting us know, Polperro flat out refused to accommodate us. Having asked the request to be checked with the kitchen, once again the response was no we can’t help you. It’s important to note that Canola oil is a GM oil which is cheap and used in pub fryers. Not something we expected to feature “throughout the menu” at a restaurant touting Organic farm produce. Sadly we have a voucher that we must use at Polperro somehow, but it’s a rather sad end to something we were rather looking forward to.

Hi Robert, We apologise for the misunderstanding which was due to a glitch in communication between our reservations and kitchen team on a busy day! Canola oil does not feature throughout our entire menu - it is indeed made out of produce from our organic farm - but what the kitchen wished to convey was that as it is a working kitchen where we also prepare food for our lawn bar (such as fried calamari), traces of canola might cross contaminate and that it therefore depends on the level of intolerance. This is the same message we give our gluten-intolerant customers as we always need to inform them that we are unable to completely guarantee against cross-contamination in the kitchen. We do cater to a number of allergies at Polperro and will continue to do so. We feel it is a shame you have rated our venue 1-star, as you are yet to visit our lovely winery. There are many other avenues we welcome you to use your voucher, including our accommodation and wine store. If you wish to do so, please email stay@polperrowines.com.au and our team will look after you. Kind regards, Polperro Management

$15 for wine tasting is fine, but to not refund against purchase is tight and we should have seen that as a warning sign. Cellar door venue is lovely (as is the wine) but we were rushed through, only winery not to give water with tasting. Not surprised 2 other couples walked out before starting. We all know everyone is short-staffed at the moment, but this experience was far below what we got everywhere else (at big and small wineries) so either close the Cellar Door for tastings and concentrate on the restaurant, or do it properly. For now, don't rush to include this in your wine tour.

Nice wines here but there’s an almost non existent business model in place to sell it. From the moment we arrived we felt unwelcome and unappreciated. There seemed to be a bit of tension and unhappiness among the staff. Not something mere customers could understand without an explanation. The cellar door is a tiny little room with an imperious chap directing traffic in it. We were directed away from it. I’ve done more wine tastings both in Australia NZ overseas than I’ve had hot dinners, and this tasting was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced and certainly the worst ever tasting I’ve had on the Mornington Peninsula. The business model here seems almost designed to NOT sell wine. We ultimately left with many hundreds of dollars in our pockets that we had planned to spend on wine here but then spent elsewhere. The staff are rude, dismissive and arrogant IMO. There are much better places on the Peninsula. We won’t be back here.

No dogs no problem we respect people’s property rights …. But gee, you need to put appropriate and visible signs up prior to entry - no need to get so emotional about it when people make a “mistake”. My wife had just started the wine tasting and I was on dog duty, who was leashed, and my son and I were just walking him while people were coming up to say hello to the dog, very popular … all of a sudden “The Manager” comes speeding up asking us to leave. I politely explained that my wife had started a wine tasting and if we could wait within the car park area - unfortunately he wanted us to get in the car and leave. I was going to suggest we walk the dog outside of “His Estate” but at this point my son and I made the call to call his Mum and leave … Australia really has some of the worst customer service and behaviour and they seem to truly think it’s your privilege to purchase their products!

We visited Polperro Winery over the weekend with family who were visiting from interstate. Upon arriving, the nine of us sat outside in the beautiful garden and ordered a couple of platters and drinks. The location was amazing but we were very disappointed with the platters. Very expensive for what they were. We bought two platters for $60 and extra bread for an additional $10, they seemed to go to very minimal effort with them. Basically a few things chucked on a cardboard serving plate. The two platters were basically only enough for two people and the food on them was very average. The outdoor bar had very limited options - no sweet white wines, only lager or pale ale and if you wanted a cocktail you basically had to buy a jug. The staff were friendly but the bar was often unattended. Location exceptional but save your money with the platters - extremely disappointing!

Beautiful view and wine tasting experience on the deck was amazing. The gentleman facilitating the tasting on last Saturday was very nice, good knowledge of the wines and made the whole experience worthwhile. Would definitely recommend anyone visiting Red Hill to visit Polperro winery as a must and the Even Kneel Chardonnay was excellent! I don’t like Chardonnays but I was converted at Polperro :))

Family get together including our English cousins started out badly when the tour organiser forgot. We had to drive ourselves on the tour but to our delight, the tour company paid for each stop which included Polperro Winery for lunch. I'm not sure how much the "free" aspect played a part but we thoroughly enjoyed the food, wine, service and ambience. We were proud to have such a lovely place to show off to our guests from overseas. This was in late December 2019. I'm now booked in with a different group for New Year's Eve so review mark II in the New Year is coming.
