The largest zoological experience in Texas, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo offers...

The largest zoological experience in Texas, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo offers fun, educational and entertaining experiences for the whole family. The Zoo's mission is to inspire a passion for nature and conserve wildlife, and guests can see a number of endangered species and learn about a variety of conservation projects the Dallas Zoo supports. Opened in 2010, our award-winning Giants of the Savanna habitat is internationally known. The savanna features elephants, ostrich, zebras, impalas, giraffes, and guineafowl, often mingling together. The Dallas Zoo is home to a herd of five female elephants and 11 giraffes, which guests can feed by hand. Guests will see the fastest land mammal on Earth, the cheetah, as well as African lions who often spend their days sleeping just inches away from the viewing wall inside the Serengeti Grill restaurant. The Wilds of Africa area features rare animals such as gorillas, chimpanzees and okapi. Guests will enjoy getting eye-to-eye with African penguins as they swim effortlessly underwater. Highlights of the ZooNorth section include the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo, a top-rated reptile and amphibian complex featuring albino alligators, and the Koala Walkabout, featuring the only koalas in Texas, red kangaroo, wallabies, and a lorikeet feeding area for up-close adventures. For alternative transportation to the Dallas Zoo, consider the DART Red Line, which delivers guests to the Zoo's front entrance.

The old part use heavy wire cages that make it near impossible to take good pictures of the native cats. I did enjoy seeing the little monkeys, but it had the same cage like material. I thought they had a good collection of frogs exhibits. However, I notice they only had 3 chameleons instead of the 4 that they had... More

Solid zoo with all the standard animals and all the key elements and keeps the Kids entertained. Parking can be quite onerous when the weather is good in Dallas - as everyone has the same idea.

This zoo has transformed itself in the past 15 years. I went back with my college age son and had a great experience. Exhibits put animals in "realistic" settings, which are overall very attractive. It appears there are a lot of interactive activities for young kids and lots of fun places for photos. We did listen in to a couple... More

Growing up in Dallas, I have been going to this zoo for 30+ years. Recently spent a day here on Spring Break. It was overcast and cool (60 degrees) so it was not near as busy as expected. We arrived just after opening and was able to park quickly and didn't have to wait more than a few minutes to... More

In my opinion, it's better than Ft. Worth. The grounds are nice, lots of upgrades have gone into the zoo over the years. The Giants of the Savannah exhibit is excellent! As is the gorilla trail area. You can even pet the giraffes. The children's area is excellent for young kids. We visit every year and love it! Can't wait... More

This is a very good city zoo. It is not one of the best zoos in the country, but certainly worth a visit if you love animals. It is certainly inexpensive compared to other zoos I've visited ($15.00 for adults; less with the AAA discount - you have to ask for it.) Also, the food at the concessions was very... More

It's been over a decade since I visited the Dallas Zoo. The addition of the African Savannah is well designed and, you can get very close to the animals. Pack a lunch a drinks to save money. Lots of shade but go early to see the animals in action and beat the crowd. We loved it!!

I enjoyed the Dallas Zoo. The workers were extremely hospitable. The layout of the zoo is noteworthy. There are plenty of restrooms and rest areas, which were all impressively clean. There area ideal options—monorail, carousel, etc.—available.

The weather was great over Spring Break so we decided one afternoon to enjoy weather and visit the zoo. We decided on this zoo because it was closer to drive to then Ft Worth. It was about 1pm and both zoos closed at 5pm. We were very pleased with the Dallas Zoo. It was clean. The habitats were nicely done.... More

Bring a lunch and your family. Ride DART to enhance the feel of a city day out on the town. Beautifully laid out.
