The Historic Texas Theatre opened in 1931 by eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes as a Robb Rowley Theater and became infamous in 1963 as the place Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested. In 2011 it was reopened by Aviation Cinemas formed by Barak Epstein, Adam Donaghey, Eric Steele and Jason Reimer. It is open 7 days a week playing the new release independent as well as classic repertory films. "The Texas" has also put on staged events, comedians and live music. The beautiful restored bar is open every day of the week.

I actually really enjoyed visiting this little theatre. It's a bit of a throwback to the Sixties and unashamedely so! The association with JFK assasin Lee Harvey Oswald is well known as this was the place he was taken into custody. Don't expect mod cons but it is vibrant and interesting.

This isn't your average movie theatre. Established in 1931 it has a rich history in Oak Cliff. It has great sound but not updated seats or cup holders. You can catch films here not in other local theaters or you can show up and just hang out in the lounge area and have a few drinks. If you are going... More

Our youngest daughter introduced us to Bishop Arts District, while eating at one of the many rest., we discussed " going by the theatre where Lee Harvey Oswald was captured". The assasination of JFK was the 9-11 of our era. We had thoughts of going to Texas Theatre for many years now. It's spooky how the area hasn't really changed... More

The Texas Theater is hands down my favorite place to watch movies in Dallas. From documentaries to cult films, silent pictures and everything in between, they're always showing films that pique my interests. They also do themed events post-movie from time to time on the weekends where they may bring in a band or DJ and these are always a... More

I've been here many, many times. The cocktails and the atmosphere are fantastics, and they have a great selection of indie and foreign films that they place. Great place to hang out even if you're not catching a film.

This historic and old-fashioned theater is like stepping back in time. The set up is like the "old days" with velvet seats and a stage. They even had a vintage Pac-Man game in the lobby. We didn't see a movie but Kevin Smith live, and it was overall a wonderful place to spend the evening.

Nice vintage theater with a funky vibe. We watched the Dirk Nowitzki movie here and it was good too! Plan to visit and you'll be glad you did! There is a bar and lounge area to wait for your movie. One screen.

A classic venue in which to take in a film while also stepping into history. Lee Harvy Oswald was captured at this location and a historical marker outside the theater will fill you in on the history. Beautiful inside and a great spot to hang out and enjoy the scene of Oak Cliff.
