Regardless of how you feel about the Civil War (of course it was terrible) we need to make sure that we remember what happened and not try to erase our nation's complicated history. The small Confederate Memorial doesn't really glorify the South so much as...More

I respect history and all of our fallen. But there is no need to glorify in any way this terrible war, no matter the side, but particularly the side that supported slavery.

It is what it is and worth a 5 minute stop. It is a simple arch in front of the courthouse with inscriptions. It is a good reminder that families on both sides of the Civil War grieved their dead. It is also a reminder...More

Seems like they have left it to the elements instead of keeping it up, guess that is a sign of the times, but if you are around the square, an interesting place to see

If you are already on the square it is worth a look. Note the references to Denton's racist past with the "white" and "black" separate water fountains, which apparently were never hooked up. This poorly maintained 2nd rate fountain is one of the many that...More

It's such a small archway entrance with a statue on the top, at one side of the square. There is description on both side of the column. One of the canons is missing. It should be very important statue but it's not a "must see"...More

There's missing pieces, the fountains on them don't work, and it doesn't really represent Denton anymore. This statue would be better placed in a confederate graveyard or museum. It's time Denton works toward enhancing their art and cultural landmarks. There's really not that much to...More

Tasteful memorial to fallen soldiers. I was surprised to see it but I'm glad Denton has chosen for it to remain. The civil war happened and destroying history is not the answer.

This memorial is to the confederate soldiers that served in the civil war. It is very old and has very unique carvings on it. It helps us remember the war and that we should never have any type of slavery again.

It's just kind of there. I walk by it all the time, there's nothing really special about it. Sometimes there's a dixie flag protester, but that's when I turn around and walk away from the bigot.
