This hanging tree was just a bonus on the court house square and the history that took place there is very moving.

One of the sites in Goliad is the hanging tree a beautiful tree which was used to mete out "justice" after trials. It is "only" a big old beautiful tree until you realize that it was used to hang many people after they were convicted....More

Well the name sort says it all, but that is a beautiful tree. The courthouse is a classic Texas courthouse, so the day was great.

This is a huge oak tree outside of the courthouse in Goliad. You really can picture the sentences being carried out. I think it’s sad, but a true historical account of the early Texas justice system.

The tree is located in the center of town on the grounds of the county courthouse. The tree has quite the history. When convicted, the prisoner was walked outside and hanged from this magnificent live oak tree.

A number of trials held here and in the end justice was swift for hundreds of convicted individuals. Definitely worth a stop to see and appreciate our past. Lots of period restored buildings nearby.

While we only sampled the Jalapeno Soup because they were out and just got a Deli sandwich the place was clean and the folks were extremely friendly. We will definitely be back. Can't wait to try more of the food!

There's not much to do here, but worth taking a look as you explore the square. It's chilling to think of people being sentenced inside the courthouse, and then marched outside to hang from the tree.

This huge ancient oak stands next to the restored historic courthouse where justice was not always just, but it could be very swift with one swing of a rope over the hanging tree branches. Walk the Goliad Courthouse Square to get the feel of a...More
