- Jmar264London, United Kingdom57 contributionsAn oasisWe enjoyed incredible wines and shared some lamb at this local winery. Worth the drive from Chania into this fertile valley, it's like an oasis. Very good service and exceptional wine and food. We grabbed a bottle to-go, and our server also tipped us off on a local taverna for a dinner later that evening (they closed for food at 1730 in April, but open longer in the Summer). A beautiful setting.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 April 2024
- Ceri SHuddersfield, United Kingdom290 contributionsWorth a visit even if you don’t drink wineGreat evening at the winery, short informative tour then tasting of 1 white, 1 rose, 3 red on the terrace. Followed by a feast of food - salad, lamb, beef - very good experience and a bit different. We booked direct and got a taxi there and back. We were there about 3 hours. Busier than I expected. Very friendly accommodating staff. Shop selling various wines, gifts etc. worth a visit even if you don’t drink wine.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 June 2024
- Dave GPortsmouth, United Kingdom15 contributionsA real gem 💎Called in as we had read a little about it. What an absolute gem of an oasis. Well worth the trip. We drove in our hire car rather than an organised trip. Stunning setting and a free wine tour. You also have opportunity to taste their wines after. They are really excellent. Huge shout out to the fantastic staff and especially Wesley for his really insightful knowledge of wine making on the tour (it lasts about 20 - 30 minutes and is fascinating. You must go here if you get the chance. Although we didn’t eat the food looks fantastic too!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 July 2024
- Chris POttery St. Mary, United Kingdom24 contributionsFascinating winery tour with great food!I have done many winery visits the world over and this rates as one of the most genuine that I have experienced. Total integrity and a wonderful team in both the restaurant and guiding. Apart from the fact that the wines are truly world class, we had a delicious lunch after our tasting and tour. Very sensibly priced and only 20 minutes drive from Chania. Go for it!!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 August 2024

We found this winery in an online search and thought it would be a lovely way to spend the early morning, and to have lunch. Nowhere on the website does it say that reservations are required or even recommended for tastings or lunch. In fact, for lunch the website says you can “just pop in.”
We had considered making a reservation for a tasting but were not sure exactly what time we would get there, given we were coming from an hour away. I looked at booking and there were lots of times posted. When we clicked on one, it asked for our name and contact details, which suggested to us that there would have been a booking available. Anyway, in our experience visiting various wineries, we have never been required to make a booking for a tasting.
After driving an hour to get there we arrived at what looks like a lovely place. And it was empty. Lots of staff walking around and just one table seemed to be occupied for tastings and just one table occupied for lunch. We were informed right away that they were completely booked for the entire weekend. The initial staff person checked with someone else who also refused to accommodate us.
So what could have been a lovely experience, was a rather terrible experience. We won’t try again the next time we are in Crete.

Nice location with lovely setting. We didn't have a reservation, however, we still wanted to stay and eat ( 4 persons). They told us there is no place inside. We offered to stay outside but we got a refusal. I wanted to buy a specific bottle of wine but I wanted to try it first. No way. You need to get the full tasting package. I still bought the bottle and ask why they leave 4 customers to just go so easy mostly when there are other establishments in the area. offering free wine and other products( oil and spirits) tasting. The lady on the counter ( young, brunette with curly hair) told us to go there if we like. We had the wine later on and the quality-price was unbalanced. I have to add that, the staff was polite but cold and definitely not helpful at all. It's a pity for such a nice location and beautiful setting. We will have a second thought if to return.

The wine tasting was very disappointing!
It's a very nice place, the wines are OK, but the only thing that matters here is getting as many guests through as quickly as possible.
The ladies who bring the wine rattle off their text at high speed, and the speed of their speech means that you can't ask any questions.
Even before you take your first sip, you feel like you're one of thousands of guests who are being processed as quickly as possible.
To speed things up, 2 wines are put out in the first step, and then 3 wines at the same time in the second step.
They don't even swap the glasses from white wine to red wine.
The amount of wine is a bad joke! You get about 5 double shot glasses full for your €14 (and that's from the manufacturer itself!)
The question of whether you could get a second taste of a particular wine was simply ignored!
All in all, this is not a place where guests are valued. The only thing that matters here is making a lot of money in a short space of time!

Very nice surroundings and good wine. But the tasting is a bit underwhelming - all whites/rosé are provided at the same time so become warm by the time you get to the later ones, the information provided is perfunctory, and glasses for white are reused for red without any caution as to the contents left (I am no tasting connoisseur but it seems strange even to me). To be fair, the tasting is not pricey so I guess you get what you pay for - just don’t expect an educational or sophisticated experience.

We, a medium sized group of 10, book a tour here including a wine & oil tasting and actually learned quite a bit about the production of olive oil and how to determine quality in this products. As for the wine, was it a rather okayish standard, especially if you have done tastings in France, Italy or other typical wine producing countries. This statement goes for the quality of the wines, as well as the presentation of it all. As greek wine production, do the tours also have to continue their development in order to meet the highest European standards, as the presentations were given rather loveless. Still an ok tour and beautiful premisses - the oil was actually very good.

The wine is good, the location is nice, but that's all. The food choice is limited (and no fish, that would go well with the white wines, for instance), there is only one kind of desert and no soft drinks (for kids or drivers). The staff (or, at least, the one who attended us) was unfriendly and not helpful at all (for instance in helping choosing the right wine for the food).

We toured the winery on a day that they were changing the wine barrels, so we couldn’t see the full wine-making process. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and the food (ordered at extra cost) was very good, but we liked only two of the five wines we tasted. They should have not scheduled the tour on a day when they couldn’t give a full tour, or they should have given a partial refund.

We booked a table and had the tour en tasting. We drank the Roussanne in a restaurant in Chania and decided to visite the winery that makes this wonderful wine. The Roussanne is a nice grape you see in the Rhone in France. Manousakis makes a very nice Roussanne, with also Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre, and also some original grapes from Crete. In the tour they tell you the family story, our tasting was for five wines, and they serve for lunch various salades, dolmades and cheese. Excellent experience, very nice wines!

The quality of the wines is unmatched, a distinguished winery
But how would you feel if the dozen wines you buy from the winery are 20% more expensive than what you would pay in a cava (specifically at My cava, Kalamaria, completely valid prices after comparison)

Lovely setting, food not bad. However, the winery is very much geared towards the commercial aspects of food, selling t-shirts, pottery, tours. Nothing wrong with that at all, but the quality of the tasting wine is really, very poor.
Having some knowledge of wines and keen to try Greek grape varieties, we did our research on Manousakis before visiting. There were some interesting Greek wines on their website which we wanted to try and would have bought. But we were told that was not possible, the only wine tasting available were five wines (white, rosé, 3 reds all with artistic labels and catchy names for marketing purposes), majority of which were of non Greek grape varieties - Syrah, Grenache etc. None of the tasting wines were interesting or frankly drinkable.
No effort by staff to offer advice or explanations on any the other wines they offered.
Go there if you want nice food, setting, interested in buying their merchandise, but not for good quality wine - at least not the ones you’re allowed to try.

Hi, Shakira. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Written 5 March 2018
Book via the winery website. There are several options. We had an option which included lunch, and the food was very good.
Written 6 March 2018
What does the tour include (besides the simple tasting)? 55€ seems very expensive for a winery tour.
Written 31 August 2017
cannot remember the exact cost but we paid between 5-7 euros per person and enjoyed a wonderful small tour and 5 different wines. The time we spent there was so relaxing. it is a good trip that could be compined with the great tavern in the village.
