Enjoyed the new South American area and food in the new cafe. As always, the animals are the stars here!

Visited the Houston zoo on January 5, 2021. After seeing billboards and advertisements for the new pantanal exhibit I was looking forward to going and it did not disappoint! Although the African forest is still my favorite themed area, the Houston zoo continues to make immersive exhibits with very well themed enclosures for the animals. Sad to see the aquarium and the bird aviary close down but I can’t wait to visit in 2022 when the Galápagos Islands exhibit opens. I will recommend to bring your own hand sanitizer because over half of the hand sanitizer dispensers were empty.

The place is not huge but you'll definitely enjoy a good 5-6 hours of family-time while traveling the entire location. The giraffe-feeding activity is definitely a must.

We love going to the Houston Zoo. We are members and go many times each year. This year the zoo is working hard to keep everyone safe and it shows. As a result of limiting guests the animals are much more active than they have been in the past. There is a large variety of things to do and see. Due to Covid the children’s zoo portion is closed as are most of the small animals houses (reptile and others). But it is still a great time and a wonderful thing to do if you are in Houston.

Our favorite exhibits were the elephants, who seem very well-cared for with plenty of room, and the primates. But the most amazing animal, and we have never seen this before, was the Ankle Cattle (see pic). These horms were incredible, and it was amazing to watch these animals move with these giant horns! We spent about 3 hours, and that was just about the right amount of time to see everything. I was happy to be here on a gorgeous day in December, but I did take note of the many shade trees and other coverings that would help visitors in the summer heat.
