About
The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft houses the world's largest collection of historic trolleybuses, together with a number of other vehicles and much more, offering a fascinating day out for all the family. It is open on specific event days when visitors can ride on a selection of trolleybuses and we also operate a free conducted tour of the local area in one of our vintage motor buses. Other attractions include our 5 rated cafe, children's play area, period shop displays, presentations (including childrens favourites) in our cinema, a 1950s prefab home, a Toy Museum and a cycle shop display. There is also a special exhibition on "Trolleybuses of the Humber." Many event days also feature themes and additional visiting attractions. There is level access to most features on our site. If you need assistance our volunteers are always happy to help. We have a height-adjustable changing bench in our accessible toilet.

- Christine S3 contributionsTrolleybus Driving ExperienceWe gifted my dad the Driving Experience for his 60th birthday. Being non-UK residents, it was rather complicated to sort out the insurance etc. but the Trolleybus Museum team went through a lot of effort to make sure he could participate in this wonderful experience, which we are very grateful for. On the day itself, every member of the team was so kind, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. My dad had the best day of his life I think, and that's all thanks to the Trolleybus Museum. We had a lovely lunch and got to go on the trolleybus with the participants. It's beautiful to see how much time and effort the team put into restoring the historic buses. Thank you for an unforgetable birthday present!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 May 2024
- Phil H38 contributionsA day trip to a trolleybus MuseumSimple to find, plenty of adjacent free parking. Upon arrival you are issued withan information pack and passes for rides. An interesting and entertaining Museum with plenty of static exhibits plus rides on electric trolley buses and a free tour around the local villages in a more modern bus. The staff are friendly and very informative There is an excellent cafe on site plus even a Bicycle Museum - fun for all of the family & well worth a visit. The website shows everything you need to know, There is an excellent book and gift shop for children young and not so young. - Chris MWetherby, United Kingdom1,692 contributionsMuseum provides a great opportunity to actively sample UK transport historyThis museum is one of few museums concentrating on this type of passenger transport once found in many UK towns and cities. We visited on one of the few weekday openings, as we thought it would be quieter. Admission was free on this occasion, although we willingly made a welcome donation. The museum has trolleybuses from a number of systems, some outside the UK. Some are operational on a site circuit and others are awaiting or being restored. Also on site is a once common 1950's post WW11 prefab bungalow, some exhibitions of antique/vintage every day items, a cinema showing vintage trolleybus films, a shop and cafe. Very much worth visiting for all agesVisited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 September 2024

Lots of old buses both motor driven and electric trolleys.A vintage bus took us round the local area with an entertaining and knowledgeable guide telling us about its history. On site trolley bus ride took us back to our youth. We will return as there is lots to see.Visited October 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 21 October 2024

Took dad ( & mum ) for fathers day, 1st visit for us all, seen the Web page but I have to say the pictures & literature don't do the museum justice. Fantastic day out for old & young alike whether you have an interest in the vehicles or not, there's so much more to see & do.
All the staff whom are volunteers are fabulous nothing is too much trouble.
Once you've paid entry the ticket is valid for 12 months...absolutely brilliant
Mum is in a wheelchair so not accessible everywhere but steps are being taken to improve where needed, obviously the vehicles here are very old & not equipped for disabled or the physically challenged
The onsight cafe is wonderful, very fairly priced, great products, good variety & plenty of indoor/outdoor seating
My hat off to everyone involved. Will most definitely be back soon !!!!!

I took an eight year old with me for one of the “Gatherings”. I’d never been there before and we both had a great afternoon.
We got to look round old double decker buses, had a ride on nearly everyone of the trolley cars running, did a tour around the villages in a vintage bus.
Everyone was so friendly. There weren’t many children there and all the volunteers & bus owners were so nice to my nephew. Everyone went out their way to answer his questions & make sure he got full enjoyment from our afternoon. He’s already requested that we go again next year.
Well done to all the volunteers & enthusiasts, it was a great afternoon.

The amount of different things to see and do was more than I expected. We have just spent the most enjoyable 3.1/2 hours at the museum.
Firstly we went on a half hour bus tour of the area with Steve giving us loads of information. We then watched a display of sniffer dogs in training. Next was lunch sitting outside the cafe (with the quickest served bacon sandwiches on record!). Looking round the cycle memorabilia and toys. Watched a film on trolleybuses and then walked round the trolleybuses. All this interspaced with rides on the buses. As many as you wanted. Great day.

Visited the museum on one of their open days where you could ride different trolley buses or even go on a short excursion on a vintage bus. Vintage cars and bicycles on show too. Vintage shop displays, railway layouts, post war furnished prefab house, cycle shop/display and the trolley bus sheds themselves. A great time out and all due to the friendly knowledgeable volunteers that run it. Highly recommended.

Just back from a weekend at the trolleybus museum. We had a great time. The whole place is run entirely by volunteers. Trolley bus rides, as many as you like, are available all day and the drivers and conductors, in the uniforms of the time, are a fount of knowledge. Other attractions include a post war Pre-fab. furnished as it would have been, how things have changed. There is also a large toy museum packed full of toys from the past and model railways. An informative film runs on a loop on the cinema. There are also buses being restored, a great gift shop and the Trolley cafe selling drinks and snacks. There are some lovely picnic areas. There is also a large family room where parents can relax in comfy chairs while the kids play safely with the toys and games. Friendly staff are around to answer any questions you may have. Recommended for a good day out.

Arrived to see the museum and directed to Disabled Parking area. Went through the entrance and we were in.
A lovely selection of old trolley buses met our eyes and we headed towards the embarkation point.
The one we went on initially was the last trolley bus to run in Doncaster and last in England. The trip brought back a lot of memories.
There is a prefab 1950’s house with rooms laid out with items from 50’s certainly makes you aware of how far advanced we are these days with technology.
I was also very impressed that the facilities for people with disabilities is well catered for with a disabled loo that has not only a high level loo and rails but not seen so often an adult changing table.
Don’t miss the cinema where Dave shows movies of the the trolley buses from different areas of the country we mentioned remembering the trolley buses in Portsmouth and he willingly showed us his film.
The coach trip around the local area is brilliant and if possible get on the one that has Steve telling his stories of the area.
Another not to be missed is the toy museum.
Then try the cafe where they offer very good value for money food.

Excellent day for OHs 60-year ambition to learn to drive a trolley-bus. An intense day of practical tuition and driving the trolley-bus. Very friendly instructors, all volunteers. A warm welcome extended to friends and family members too, plus endless tea/coffee and lunch provided.

Plenty to do here. Trolley bus rides amazing. Lovely museum displays run by volunteers. Old buses do trips around the Isle of Axhome. Cafe served basic food but amazing cakes. Lots for kids. Nostalgia for older people. Lots of classic cars on Sandtoft day.

Yes, we are pleased to welcome dogs. We ask that they are kept on a lead and that the owner clears up behind them.
