Some of us on our tour opted to take an excursion this afternoon from Athens out to southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula to see the Temple of Poseidon. The site is a popular day trip for tourists with gorgeous sunsets over the Aegean Sea. And it is only 43 miles south-southeast of Athens. The ancient ruins of Poseidon's temple... More

Do a sunset tour to Cape Sounion with a picnic dinner. Atop is the beautiful Temple of Poseidon, god of the sea. The temple overlooks a bay, surrounded on three sides by the Aegean Sea. No time to prepare a picnic, no worries. There is a restaurantl. Views are breathtaking!

Visited few years back; this site is amazing with a fantastic view, especially on sunset...facing the Aegean sea. It s also very well preserved. Highly recommend if you are around the area.

Went to this site and was wowed by the views. On such a fantastic day this site offers amazing views of the Aegean and some nearby islands. The temple of the site is massive and while not much remains it is definitely awe inspiring. Its a must see if you have a spare afternoon while in Attica.

The trip to get there is worth the tour especially if you should drive along the scenic seaside route on the Poseidonos Avenue, which connects Athens to Sounion . This gives visitors a great insight into the Athenian Riviera if you drive on the scenic coastal road. I must warn that there are many bends and the road is a... More

One of the last major Greek temples we had not yet visited, we did not regret the journey. The temple stands majestuous on the rock at the Southernmost tip of Attica. It does not require much imagination to realize the strategic importance of this location, controlling one of the busiest sea lane over many centuries. The fortifications are gone, destroyed,... Poseidon, God of the sea. Situated 70 K from Athens and perched 200 feet above the sea on the edge of a cliff. The beautiful coastal drive takes about one hour. Good views of the Temple from the road. Arriving at Cape Sounion, Poseidon dominates the area. To view the Temple costs 4 Euros. Approximately 1/4 mile walking on sloping... More

After multiple days of walking in Athens, if felt great to go a little outside the city. Just as we did, I would recommend taking the public bus by the coast. It was about 7 Euros and takes about an hour and a half. The bus left from Leof. Alexandras/Mavrommateon. If your greek is a little rusty, just ask a... More
