About
The Museo Casa Natal de Cervantes is located at the place where, according scholars, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's (1547-1616) family home was and where the litterateur was born and spent his early years. The different rooms of the building recreate the customs, tastes and daily activities of the 16th and 17th centuries, with the aim of feeling the presence of their inhabitants. The Museum also has an impressive collection of Cervantes' works from different periods and in different languages that are exhibited in the temporary exhibition room. The Museum provides a consolidated programme of activities of many different kinds: children's and adolescents' workshops, thematic visits, musical and theatrical performances, conferences, etc. The activities take place throughout the year, with special emphasis on dates that are important to the institution, such as International Book Day (April 23), Museum Night (May 18) and Cervantes Week (October 12).

I loved the history preserved here. It is a small museum, but it really gives you a taste for life during the time of Cervantes, Beautifully presented rooms, and friendly staff. A must see for fans of El Hidalgo Don Quijote and his creator.

Although the museum is called Casa Natal, i.e. the house where Cervantes was born, this is not the case. This museum is just a reconstruction. The place of birth of Miguel de Cervantes was determined only in 1948 and, as you understand, over the past three and a half centuries, no one had even thought of preserving his native home. The current Casa Natal de Cervantes Museum was opened in 1956 as the Cervantes Museum and Library. Admission to the museum is free. There are no excursions, but you can ask the caretakers questions. The living quarters are located on two floors along the perimeter around a patio- an inner courtyard with columns. A stone brocade well has been preserved, which supplied the family with water. Whether it was the family of Rodrigo Cervantes, the writer's father, is a question. On the ground floor there is a reconstruction of the rooms for the reception of guests and patients of Father Miguel de Cervantes, who, as you know, was a doctor. The upper floor is a reconstruction of a private living space, with alcoves, a children's room and two halls for temporary exhibitions. The photo exhibition, by the way, was very good. It had nothing to do with Cervantes, though. Well, except for the sense of humor of photographers...

Museum house of famous Miguel de Cervantes is located in Calle Mayor in Alcala de Henares. It is the house where Cervantes was born and spent his early years.

A nicely preserved home of Cervantes. the museum is well kept and clean. Very interesting. a nice stop if you have a little bit of time.

The building is on two floors, with a lovely indoor central patio has been restored to show us how the Cervantes family lived. Free entrance and well worth visiting.

The main goal of my recent trip to Madrid was to visit this museum.
It was a bit difficult to get to from Madrid using public transit. From my base in the centre of Madrid I (eventually) took the Metro out to the Avenda de America station where I got in the intrer-city bus to Alcaca De Henares (#223). You pay again directly to the bus driver (something it took me a while to figure out) and it was less than 4 euros for that. The driver sensing that I was lost and confused was very helpful in dropping me at the right stop and pointing how to get down the side streets to the museum.
The museum itself has some lovely exhibits representative of the times of Cervantes and of his novel Don Quixote. Admission was free and it didn't take long to go through even though I certainly took my time.
After my tour, I picked up some souvenirs at the shop across the street and had a lovely lunch at one of the many cafes close by.

The famous statues of Don Quijote and Sancho are out front! A real treat. This is the house where Cervantes was born and lived the first 3 years of his childhood.

It's a lovely renessaince house, very well restored with old pieces of furniture and stuff which let's you picture the world Cervantes lived in as a child. Nice and helpful staff and a captivating temporary exposition about Don Quijote in world filmography. Surely worth the visit, as you may spend some hours to see other attractions in Alcala de Henares old town.
