- Passenger79000815 contributionsBeautiful palace and gardens, definitely worth a visitWe ditched the overcrowded touristy atmosphere of Toledo after a quick walk though and went to Aranjuez. The palace is really lovely, very well preserved and with beautiful extensive gardens with nice fountains. Spent most of the day there. There are some places to eat very convenient to the palace, would recommend El Parterre.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 October 2023
- ludorIasi, Romania2,971 contributionsGreat day trip from MadridAranjuez is another great day trip from Madrid, once you checked out the obvious Toledo or Segovia. The Royal Palace is quite easy to reach by public transport (Cercanias) from Madrid and it offers a lot in terms of architecture, luxurious interiors, art and historical significance. It is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, adding another layer of charm to the overall experience.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 November 2023
- Joshua HThe Hague, The Netherlands38 contributionsBeautiful and exotic palace, very quietThe palace is great and so are the surrounding gardens. Aranjuez is a peaceful and convenient day trip from Madrid. The porcelain room (Orientalist) and smoking room (Neo Moorish) are two of the highlights and are very unique in Europe. I’ve seen some reviews here saying they weren’t allowed to take pictures inside, which isn’t true. There’s a sign in Spanish in most rooms saying no pictures *with flash*. I understand not everyone can read Spanish but if you have any doubts, ask one of the many guards or observe how the Spaniards are taking pictures without any problems!Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 31 March 2024
- Jessica EMadrid, Spain4 contributionsMy thoughts on AranjuezThe palace was amazing! The rooms inside were amazing. You only get to see the upstairs and a few things downstairs, but I think that it was enough for one day. The gardens were very pretty and mostly well kept, some of the buildings were a bit run down but did not ruin the effect. There was an aviary full of small birds and a lot of peacocks around. The gift shop was pretty expensive but the guide book was worth it in my opinion if you like history or just like the palace and want to know more about it. It was a very enjoyable experience and easy to get to from Madrid.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 April 2024
- Nat J10 contributionsA Must See if You are Traveling to MadridA Madrid must see! Out of the three different palaces we did on our trip (Madrid, El Escorial, and Aranjuez) we thought that Aranjuez was the best experience. The rooms were beautiful and very unique to the other Spanish palaces we saw. The signs and audio tour were extremely informative. The gardens are massive! We spent about an hour in the gardens and didn't even see half of them. It's about a 40 minute ride on the Cercania train from central Madrid.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 June 2024

We booked easily via the Patrimonio website and chose the first visit slot of 10am as we were staying at the NH hotel just opposite.
By being the first people in on the day, there were no crowds ahead of us, so it enabled us to see everything easily.
It was not a guided tour, but each room had an information board in Spanish and English to read.
There were some magnificent rooms, our favourites being the ornate Arab room and the amazing porcelain room.

The palace itself is well preserved and some of the palace rooms were quite amazing especially the porcelain room. However, like most other tourist attractions in Spain, no photography is allowed indoors. Since photos were not allowed, most other places would have a museum gift shop where guide books and postcards are sold. Unfortunately, this palace did not bother with such things and also did not bother to maintain the palace gardens which is in a quite bad state.

It is a beautiful and interesting palace to visit, although I recommend coming on Wednesday or Sunday afternoon since access is free (last pass at 5:00 p.m.).
Without a guide or audio guide the tour is short, in just 20 minutes you pass through all the rooms walking leisurely, the most beautiful are the porcelain room and the Arab room.
Taking photos inside is not allowed (although we were informed that they should soon, because other Heritage sites are already allowing it).

Only a short distance from Madrid, this is a must visit. The self guided tour takes c 1.5 hours (there’s also options to book a tour or download an app to guide you during your visit) and you get to see a good few, elaborately decorated, rooms and the grand staircase. The gardens can be explored separately free of charge.

We bought our tickets in advance and an audio guide for myself and so entry was straight forward on this fairly sunny Saturday.
The tour begins in the hallway with its grand central staircase over which hangs a chandelier of gilt bronze and crystal. This is merely the starting point of what is to come as you follow the designated route through both the King's and Queen's various chambers with all they have to offer. Alas you are not allowed to take photos!
My two personal favourite rooms were the Moorish room or Salon Arabe which was made for Queen Isabel II between 1847 and 1851 and is decorated throughout with a Moorish style similar to that seen in the Alhambra Palace in Granada. The room was used as a smoking room mainly for men. The decoration of the walls being made of brightly coloured plaster work.
Secondly the Salon de Porcelana which was created by Charles III. The walls and ceilings are completely lined by plaques, attached to timber walls by screws, of white porcelain and reliefs with motifs of fruits, flowers, monkeys, vases, birds and dragons. The floor is marble and 8 large mirrors against the walls multiply the effect of the decorations.

We went on a Saturday and despite the day it was not at all crowded.
We take the tickets through the official website and the price of the visit seems to us to be very good (20€ two adults)
It is worth visiting the palace and seeing all the rooms.
As well as the carriage exhibition.
The gardens are magnificent, with lots of shade and well kept even though some fountains were not operational.

An impressive site on the banks of the river in Aranjuez. We were surprised on the standard of upkeep of the building which was poor.
The rooms were very good but the information was basic, boring and dull.A word of warning the audio guide app takes €4 to download- takes your money and failed to download due to poor signal at the site- don’t bother.
The park around is large but again no information on use, history etc.
The royal barge museum was a additional extra and only bit which we liked

Nice very well preserved palace which was used in the spring by the Spanish royal court. The royal apartments are very well preserved, but unfortunately photography is forbidden in the palace, even with a telephone.
There were very few people during our visit. Apart from the palace, the surrounding gardens also deserve attention, the entrance to which is free.

We were lucky to be visiting Aranjuez at the time of year when obtaining tickets on the day was still possible. We were able to take in the guided tour of the Casa Del Labrador, as well as at the Royal Palace - however in winter don’t expect any tours to be in English, though you might just be lucky. The Casa Del Labrador is a fair way from the centre of town (a good 40 mins brisk walk, but through fabulous gardens), well worth a visit. However, it seems strange to think that so much money was lavished on a place that was only used during the day, and for a limited period of time each year. For us, though, the tour of the Royal Palace was even more interesting. There are several rooms that can only be seen as part of a guided tour, and were particularly impressive. Can’t speak too highly of our guide Christiano, who explained everything and answered questions with such patience, allowing time for me to translate from his descriptions into English if anything wasn’t clear. Particularly amazed by the porcelain room. Wish we could have taken photos to have memories of this visit as sadly the illustrations in the guide books aren’t of a standard to have the detail we would want.

Interesting Palace fully furnished.
Most of the interior decoration was redone in the mid XIXTH century including the astonishing over the top furnishings of the Queen's bedroom.
The porcelains room decorated with fanciful Chinese inspired motives is particularly pleasing.
Some very nice tapestries and an extensive collection of French and a few English clocks are a plus.
No indoor photos allowed as is all too often the case in Spain.

If I only want to visit the gardens of the palace and not go inside, do I need to buy the ticket ?
Written 3 July 2018
No as previous comments the gardens are public and therefore free access and worth a visit ... we visited last September when flowers were very pretty and again in May this year not so much bloom but still lovely if want to do some walking and work up an appetite for tapas!

Salve, c'è la guida in italiano e quanto costa? Grazie
Written 11 January 2018

Can you take picture inside the palace?
Written 9 July 2017
Sorry~ I just saw your question. No, you can't take a picture inside, but only in the gardens and courtyard.

¡Hola! he leído algunas opiniones y en mi visita a madrid visitaremos Aranjuez.
