Just 30 minutes outside Paris and 25 minutes from Paris Roissy CDG Airport, the Château d’Auvers is located at the heart of Auvers sur Oise, exactly where Vincent van-Gogh spent the remaining 70 days of his life.As a city of artists, the village of Auvers has 9 Impressionism memory sites which are very typical of its Vallée du Vexin streets and even includes the grave and room of Vincent van-Gogh, the church, the house of Dr. Gachet.

A total surprise: this isn't a museum and there are no original paintings. Instead, you're taken on a tour of the places where Impressionism developed its character. You walk from room to room, each one representing a significant milieu for the movement: a Parisian street, a bar, a brothel, a railway carriage, a picnic spot, a river etc. There is... More

Building could be stunning but had a general untidiness which suggested some neglect, certainly from the outside. I can only comment on the outside as the place was shut, even though it was advertised as open- there were no signs up explaining the closure. Apparently the exhibition on offer is essentially a video presentation of the impressionist period. Most of... More

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon when we visited the Chateau d'Auvers. We didn't enter the Chateau(heard it's not worth paying the tickets to go in), however, we had a wonderful time just walking around and taking photos around the chateau. If you are visiting this place, you should definitely visit other places that Van Gogh has painted.

Try and make a full day of this trip. Aim to get to the museum around 10.00 then have a leisurely walk around this 'time warp' which takes you through the centuries including 'Haussman's massive changes to Paris' as well as the naissant group of impressionists that didn't impression anyone at the time. I also highly recommend you read 'Renoir... More

i was blown away by this, not a single piece of art on the walls yet I studied art throughout the two hours I spent there. I went from watching the can-can, to taking a train ride and everything in between. I had a translation ear piece that caused me no issues and overall I can't say enough about how... More

This is a lovely adventure to discover how the impressionist movement began and developed. You get to sit and watch a can can show, take the train amidst landscape paintings... it’s very educational. Non French visitors can use translator devices. The downside is the price, however, the boutique has some charming and unusual souvenirs and books at good prices. The... More

It's easy to see why impressionism masters gathered here...the surroundings are inspirational, the grounds are perfectly manicured and the museum affords a glimpse into the era that brought us such wonderful art. The museum tour is informative, albeit short, and can be skipped if time is an issue. For the majority of sites in Auver Sur Oise, the highlight is... More

A fun and interesting visit around the world of the impressionist. I've been many times at the Orsay museum buy this was really interesting as instead of paintings it explained life at the time they were painting and creating the chef d'oeuvre that we know now.
