Came to Port Aransas to check out the Horace Caldwell fishing pier. Since the Bob Hall pier in CC is gone. This one is very similar. Over 1200 feet long and it’s a T-Head pier. The store at the entrance, Keepers, is in vast need of improvements. It’s run down and smelly but it’s also the one where one pays to get in. On Saturday, 4-24-21, the guy in charge was nice but in very strong need of deodorant. It has very limited supplies. I posted the entrance prices but it’s CASH ONLY for all purchases. As seniors with one pole each we paid $4; $1 per person plus $1 per pole. Thanks RR are next to store and are clean but like all public RRs in need of constant cleaning. The pier has concrete flooring in 4x4 squares with angle holes to insert your rod. Only one area with water to clean your fish. Maintenance seems to be a problem. Overall a good place to fish. Seems to be a popular location because it was full of people fishing and sight seers. Also a youth surfing contest was going on Saturday.

My husband and I went here to watch people fish. The pier was closed and we got on for free. It was a great time watching people catch hammer head sharks, but pretty windy. We came back another day and it was open so we didn’t walk down because of the fee. We went to the Jetty near by for free and watch more fisherman there.

Fishing pier is great, make sure you have a drop net and some sturdy rods and tackle. I’ve fished there every time we go and never fail to catch something, from sharks to sand trout. Caught a 32” bull red last time.

First night we got to Port A this is where we had to go. Although an anniversary trip, hubby had to fish! Shark weren't biting that weekend but still had fun!

In all y years coming to Port A, Ive never been to the pier. It gave a good look at the town from a different angle. It does cost to just go down the pier. You can also rent poles. Lots of Texas surfers out there to watch
