Spring Lake, formerly Acquarena Springs, is the beating heart of San Marcos. An incredible natural resource right in the middle of town adjacent to Texas State University. The Meadows Center is focused on ecology and the preservation of this incredible site. For 12,000 years, the springs that create Spring Lake have been inhabited by indigenous peoples and modern man. That... More

Having visited when this was Aquarena Springs as a child in the 1970's, I was very interested in seeing this area today as it is being returned to its native habitat. The glass bottom boat ride is a must and the highlight of the time you will spend at the center. The glass bottom boats are the same ones used... More

We have been mesmerized by the glass bottom boats for years. Knowledgeable, interesting and friendly college students lead these tours with lots of infor6about origins of the area, history, ecology, wildlife, geography. Center also houses aquarium where visitors can see endangered species and river info.

Only six adults on our tour; the water was perfectly clear and we could see the springs bubbling up from underground, as well as many fish. Our guide was very informative, and we walked the boardwalk afterwards.

Stopped in on our way home after a trip to San Antonio. We were the first boat out on a Sunday morning, and there were only 7 adults on the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and the views from the bottom of the boat were fascinating. Highly recommended for all ages!

My wife and I had a nice time here today. The glass bottom boat ride was very interesting and the guide was quite knowledgeable. The springs here are massive and are the headwaters of the San Marcus River. It was revealing to find that this area may be the longest continuously inhabited area in North America, going back perhaps 14000... More

We did the bottom glass boat tour for 45 minutes. Saw lots of cool things underneath the boat. Also learned many things. A must in SAN Marcos.

The glass bottomed boat ($21) is 45 minutes long and very informative, relating how ancient local tribes used to use the area and more recent uses of the springs. The museum is also very good describing how the crystal clear waters originate and how they migrate there, it's in a lovely setting and there is also a wetland walk which... More

We were not sure about this at first, but so glad that we went. There is a small aquarium inside that is interesting. TU students working inside were very informative. They offered an inexpensive glass bottom boat tour on the lake and we were all for it. There were 30 minute and 45 minute tours. The lake is beautiful (small)... More

On the way back from Dick's garage I thought to drop into Meadow Springs and have a go at the glass bottomed boat tour. The students from State of Texas U manage the service and and are very interesting and friendly. I went for the 45 minute tour and that was much quieter than the 30 minute tour. The water... More
