This is a great place to do a nice loop hike. We did it in the late afternoon. As it was getting dark, deer were approaching the campground area. This was really cool to see them so close. We also saw the moon coming up...More

Stopped here in the late afternoon to hike. The ranger recommended the extra 3/4 mile loop as that is where the most "wood" is. True! Lots of colorful petrified pieces of various sizes. Worth the stop!

This is a small park compared to the Petrified Forest, but it does provide an introduction to petrified trees. Worth a stop if you have not been to the Petrified Forest.

We went here on he recommendation of a park ranger. We were a bit disappointed. The hike up to the first good petrified wood was moderately steep and the overall hike was ok. In order to see more wood you need to do an extended...More

The name of this attraction is very misleading. Petrified Copse would be an exaggeration. We saw everything on offer for the $4 fee and left after ten minutes. The 40' petrified tree (lying down) was interesting though.

We did not actually go INTO the park, but turned around and took some GORGEOUS PICS of the WIDE HOLLOW RESERVOIR. There was a fee to enter.

Escalante is an awesome town. Take time to explore this area and do this hike. We did it in the late, late afternoon when it was cooler. Do not be fooled! You must hike to the top of the mesa. You then go down into...More

While traveling through the Escalante grand staircase, we stopped to see the petrified forest. The first part of the trail is steep and rocky, stop at each of the points of interest and read the brochure. The balanced rock is picturesque. So is the chunk...More

It depends on what you like to do. We just got back two days ago. This time we backpacked into Coyote Gulch. It's absolutely stunning (my fourth time going). There's some great closer day hikes: Spooky and Peek-a-Boo slot... More
